The University of North Georgia College of Education proudly celebrates alumnus Ely Self on his selection to Team USA for the 2026 Cairns Cup — an international adaptive golf competition featuring Team USA vs. Team Europe in Spain this July! A 2014 graduate with a B.S. in Mathematics Secondary Education, Ely is a High School Physics and Math Teacher, Science Department Chair, and Head Boys Golf Coach.

Born with arthrogryposis, Ely has become an inspiring force in adaptive golf through his perseverance, positivity, and dedication to the sport. In addition to serving as Head Golf Coach at North Hall High School and being named the 2025 Hall County Coach of the Year, Ely continues to excel competitively on the national stage.

His recent accomplishments include:
Georgia Adaptive Tournament Champion (2024)
Division Winner at the 2025 Georgia Adaptive Tournament
Palmetto Division Gross Champion at the 2025 Palmetto State Adaptive Golf Open

Ely hopes his journey encourages others — especially individuals with disabilities — to pursue their goals with resilience and purpose. We are incredibly proud to see him representing Team USA and inspiring others both on and off the course.

Congratulations, Ely!
