And now this wise message

Misericordia University is thrilled to share expert advice from our very own Dr. Michael P. Orleski, Chair & Associate Professor of Physics and Director of the Core Curriculum, on how to safely enjoy the upcoming solar eclipse this Monday! Whether you’re in NEPA or planning to travel for a better view, we’ve got you covered.

🕶 Tip 1: Safety First for NEPA Viewers
If you’re in NEPA or any area where the eclipse isn’t total, protect your eyes! Use solar viewing glasses from a trusted source. Remember, the shiny side of the lenses should face the Sun.

⏰ Tip 2: Timing is Everything
The eclipse peaks at 3:23 PM locally, covering most of the Sun. However, the Moon will take its grand journey across the Sun from 2:08 PM to 4:30 PM. So, make sure to check out the sky several times during this window for the full experience.

🌒 Tip 3: Totality Seekers
Heading out to witness the total eclipse? You can safely enjoy the total phase without eye protection. But be vigilant about the timing! Cease viewing a few seconds before the total phase ends to avoid the sudden bright burst of sunlight. For precise timings, check out Time and Date: https://bit.ly/49qO6Wz

🌍 Wherever you are, Misericordia University encourages you to share your eclipse experiences and photos with us! Use the hashtag to join the community in awe.

Let’s make this celestial event a moment of learning and wonder together. Happy eclipse viewing!

The Misericordia Biology Association (formerly Bio Club) held its first annual Progression Celebration last Friday. Awards were handed out to denote and highlight student's progress to their degree including embroided lab coats, certificates, professional head shot photographs and embossed wine goblets (for the seniors). I also want to thank the students for awarding me the Association's Professor of the Year award. I was truly touched.
