"I chose this elective because I've always enjoyed procedures and I wanted to gain more insight into the role of a surgical PA. I would like to thank the amazing Robotic Gynecology Surgery APP team who made me feel like I was truly part of the team: Patricie Stephens, PA-C, Melissa Livermore, PA-C, Anju Patel, PA-C, and G*i Casenas, NP. I am also thankful for Latisha Bryson, RN, scrub nurse, and Victoria Starnes, M.D., resident in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, who greatly contributed to my learning."

Clinical Elective Highlight ✨ ⚕️

Elective: Pediatric Cardiology - Children's Medical Center Dallas

"I chose pediatric cardiology as my elective because of my passion for working with kids and my interest in the heart. I spent two weeks with the cardiovascular thoracic surgery team where I had the chance to scrub into septal defect repairs, aortic arch repairs, arterial switches, and more. I spent one week working with the CVICU, assisting with rounds on critical patients including patients who had received heart transplants. I also spent a week with the Acute Cardiology Care Unit (ACCU) for a week, a step-down floor from the CVICU, preparing kids and families for discharge."

Elective: Blue Ribbon Dermatology

"I selected this elective because I wanted to observe dermatology from a provider's perspective and to get a more hands-on experience in procedures. In my time at Blue Ribbon Dermatology, I’ve seen a spectrum of interesting rashes and “spots,” assisted in surgical excisions, performed shave/punch biopsies, and removed sutures. I am thankful to my preceptor, Dr. Aboul-Fettouh, for being a great teacher and an intelligently talented individual."

The 2026 graduates of the Master of Science in Genetic Counseling program are already making their mark on the genetic counseling field!
✔️Employed across 3 different states and 4 different cities
✔️Represented on the board of directors for genetics-related advocacy organizations
✔️Research presented both nationally and internationally

Alumni Highlights:

🌟 Madelyn Armstrong received an honorable mention for best poster at the International Skeletal Dysplasia Society in Toronto, Canada.

🌟Emily Helm was selected for the AMEND USA Board of Directors. Ms. Helm's research was also presented by Heather Fisher, M.S., CGC at the Philadelphia Prenatal Diagnosis Conference.

🌟Vivian Duong recently joined the E.WE Foundation Board of Directors.

Do you need to reset or recharge? ✨ All SHP Faculty and Staff are invited to take a walk with a view, relax in our massage chair, grab a book to read or grab a coffee! Cold, tepid and hot water is also available whenever you need it.
