SMU Lyle School of Engineering

SMU Lyle School of Engineering Welcome to the official page of the Bobby B. Lyle School of Engineering at SMU in Dallas, TX

At the Lyle School, we are changing the way people think about engineers. Through innovation and hands-on experiences, we are attracting a diverse mix of talented students interested in making a difference in the world through engineering. With our bold vision and assertive attitude, we continue to grow both our undergraduate and graduate student population from a broad range of extraordinarily ta

lented students across the nation and around the globe. In addition, we are fortunate to have one of the highest percentages of female engineering students anywhere. Not only is our faculty recognized internationally for remarkable contributions to engineering and society, but our strategic plan is inspired by a vision for Lyle to be one of the most influential educational and research centers for engineering and technology on the globe – one whose work will define the new American engineer and restore our role as technology leaders and world changers.

Happy first day of classes, SMU Lyle! ❤️💙

It’s been a busy start to the semester, with Interim Dean Dinesh Rajan welcoming some of our newest undergraduate and graduate students to SMU Lyle. His advice as they begin the year: make your Lyle experience your own.

Explore beyond your field. Take advantage of the research, centers and opportunities around you. Connect with people who challenge your thinking. And follow what energizes you.

We’re excited to have the Lyle community together again on the Hilltop and can’t wait to see what our students learn, discover and accomplish this year!

As Dr. Nader Jalili concludes his tenure as Dean of the SMU Lyle School of Engineering, we thank him for his leadership and for the many contributions he has made to our community over the past three and a half years. As Lyle looks ahead, we share his confidence and excitement for the school’s continued momentum and all that lies ahead.

Under Dean Jalili’s leadership, Lyle has strengthened connections among engineering education, research and industry, while continuing to prepare students to become future-ready engineers for a rapidly changing world.

As he shared with the Lyle community, the growth we have seen in our research, classrooms and camaraderie belongs to this community — our students, faculty, staff, alumni, executive board members, industry partners and friends.

That community is the heart of SMU Lyle and the foundation for everything ahead.

With a new academic year just beginning, there is so much to look forward to — new students to welcome, new discoveries to make, new ideas to pursue and new opportunities to build together.

Thank you, Dean Jalili, for your leadership and commitment to SMU Lyle. ❤️💙

The future of engineering starts with hands-on experience.

SMU Lyle has unveiled a new suite of Quanser-powered teaching and research laboratories that will expand opportunities for students and faculty working in artificial intelligence, robotics, autonomous systems, digital twins and cyber-physical engineering.

The new Lyle Applied Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (LAIL) and Dynamic Systems, Controls, Robotics & Mechatronics Labs provide more than 1,800 square feet of collaborative learning space equipped with industry-leading technology, helping students develop the skills needed to solve tomorrow's engineering challenges.

As AI and automation continue to transform every industry, these new facilities ensure SMU Lyle students are learning with the same technologies they're likely to encounter in the workforce.
