The Caruth Police Institute was funded with an initial grant of $9.5 million from the Communities Foundation of Texas and works to identify and train a new generation of police leaders and develop innovative strategies for sustainable, positive outcomes in fighting crime and preventing victimization. Our Institute provides advanced leadership training for public safety personnel and functions as a research laboratory for best policing practices.

Our Story

The Caruth Police Institute at the University of North Texas at Dallas (UNTD-CPI) was established over a decade ago through the philanthropic vision of the Caruth Foundation and the Communities Foundation of Texas in partnership with academic leaders of the University of North Texas System. The purpose of CPI is to improve public safety through cutting edge research, rigorous and highly valued training, advisory to and technical assistance for police leadership and providing comprehensive evaluations for crime fighting strategies.
