SMU-in-Germany 🇩🇪
 This program runs every other year and this year it is based out of Bonn, Germany. The program runs from early June through mid-July and focuses on studying language, culture, and film.  
This is also one of the summer programs that offers the 1601 track for language. Perfect for students with no experience in German who want to fulfill their language requirements.  
Some sample excursions include the Beethoven House & Museum, visiting the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, and a historical city tour of Cologne.

SMU-in-South Africa. 🇿🇦
This is a Faculty Led Program that focuses on music and music performance, as well as human rights. It is based in Bloemfontein, South Africa and runs from the end of May through late June. 
On this program, students will do a Music Theatre Workshop that will integrate music, theatre, history, and human rights. For Summer 2026, the program will be doing the classic 1957 musical, A West Side Story.  
Some sample excursions include: the Amanzi Game Lodge, The University of Cape Town & Baxter Theatre Center, and the Table Mountain and National Park

Our Summer Applications open November 1 and we are highlighting some of our amazing programs that will be offered this Summer 2026!
SMU-in-Bali is a Faculty Led program that focuses on the arts, culture, and yoga. It is based out of the island Bali in Indonesia and runs from the end of May through mid-June. On this program, students take an interdisciplinary approach to engaging with the culture through a class that immerses students in performance, visual and communicative Balinese arts, a yoga class and percussion class. Students also will be able to watch the Balinese Kecak Fire Dancers and traditional Balinese music and dance performers during a visit to the royal family’s Ubud palace.  Some sample excursions are the Sacred Monkey Forest and the traditional Village of Tenganan.

Students examine the dynamic and varied experiences of Latino communities in the U.S. by engaging with themes such as migration, identity, language, education, and representation. The course emphasizes experiential and collaborative learning through immersion in the local Oaxacan community, encouraging critical reflection and meaningful intercultural dialogue.
