A LEGACY OF ACHIEVEMENT | HONORING BROTHER DR. RICHARD E. HOLMES
The Mighty Southwestern Province of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. joins the Holmes family, Mississippi State University, and the greater fraternity community in mourning the passing of Brother Dr. Richard E. Holmes (1944–2026).
A native of Starkville, Mississippi, Brother Holmes forever changed the course of history when he became the first African American student to attend Mississippi State University in 1965. His courage and determination opened doors for generations of students who followed.
Initiated into the Alpha Chi Chapter at Wiley College on December 13, 1964, Brother Holmes was also instrumental in the chartering of the Eta Upsilon Chapter at Mississippi State University, leaving an enduring mark on our Noble Klan.
His pursuit of achievement continued through his distinguished career in medicine, ultimately bringing him back to Mississippi State University, where he served as a physician at the institution he helped transform.
Brother Holmes embodied the very essence of our Fraternity’s fundamental purpose: Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor.
On behalf of Brother C. Jerome Brown, 28th Southwestern Province Polemarch, and the brothers throughout the Southwestern Province, we extend our deepest condolences to the Holmes family and all who were touched by his extraordinary life.
His courage opened doors. His service changed lives. His legacy will endure.
Rest well, Brother Holmes. Your place in history is forever secured. ♦️ C Jerome Brown Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity Yo👌🏾♦️
