Great things happen when community partnerships support student learning and local families. 💙

Misericordia University occupational therapy faculty members Dr. Lori Charney and Dr. Orley Templeton have received a $5,000 grant from Autism NEPA to support three community-based programs, including two doctoral capstone projects and an OT handwriting clinic.

The funding will help expand services for individuals with autism and their families while providing meaningful hands-on learning experiences for our occupational therapy students.

Thank you, Autism NEPA, for investing in programs that make a difference throughout our region.

The most memorable lessons aren't always taught in a classroom.

This summer, seven Misericordia students and staff members traveled to the Dominican Republic to volunteer with the DREAM Project's literacy program. From helping with ESL and physical education classes to visiting a female-owned cacao farm and sharing time with local families, participants experienced firsthand the power of service, connection, and cultural exchange.

Along the way, they discovered new perspectives, built meaningful relationships, and experienced the incredible hospitality of the Dominican people—bringing home memories and lessons that will last far beyond the trip itself. 💙

This week’s Intern Spotlight features Jariel Severino ’28, a Government, Law, & National Security major with minors in Information Security and Religious Studies.

Jariel is spending his summer with the Pennsylvania State Police Law & Leadership Program, where he is putting his strong work ethic and disciplined approach into practice while gaining valuable professional experience.

Following graduation, Jariel plans to pursue a career in the federal government or military. In addition to his academic and professional pursuits, he is also a member of Misericordia University’s Men’s Wrestling Team.

We are proud to see Jariel applying his talents in meaningful ways and wish him continued success this summer!💙

Misericordia University’s annual Social Work Brunch & Pinning Ceremony celebrated our graduating seniors and the accomplishments they have achieved throughout their academic journey.

This year’s guest speaker, Jade Levi, Senior Director of Operations at CASA of Luzerne County, encouraged graduates to continue the mission of the social work profession as they begin rewarding careers serving others, including in the field of child welfare.

Graduates were joined by family members, fellow social work students, and faculty to commemorate this special milestone. Congratulations to our newest social work graduates as they prepare to make a lasting impact in their communities and beyond! 🎓

Just four weeks ago, we gathered to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2026 as they crossed the stage and began their next journeys. While campus may look a little different without them, we're proud of all they've accomplished and excited to watch what comes next.

Misericordia University’s Occupational Therapy program continues to make an impact on a national level.

At the AOTA Conference 2026 in Anaheim, CA, four OT faculty members, along with several students and alumni, presented their research and capstone projects—highlighting the strong collaboration between faculty and students and the meaningful outcomes of their work.

In addition, faculty attended the Academic Leadership Council meetings, joining OT program directors from across the country to stay informed on emerging trends in higher education and the future of occupational therapy.

We’re especially proud to celebrate Dr. Ellen, who was honored with a Service Commendation Award from the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).

These experiences reflect the strength of our program and our commitment to preparing students for impactful careers.

Intern Spotlight: Logan Larish ’28

Business Administration major Logan Larish is spending his summer as a Talent Acquisition Intern with Nimbl Digital. In this role, he works alongside the recruiting team, gaining insight into both the daily operations and long-term growth strategies that drive the organization.

Through the experience, Logan is developing valuable communication, business, and networking skills while learning from the support and mentorship of the Nimbl team.

This fall, Logan will return to Misericordia University to continue his studies and compete with the MU Men’s Golf team. We’re proud to see our students applying classroom knowledge in professional settings and building connections that will help shape their future careers.💙💛

Congratulations to Mentor Michelle Conway and the Misericordia students who represented the university so well at last weekend’s FBLA State Competition in Harrisburg, PA.

Our students had an excellent showing, earning Commonwealth finalist honors and placing in numerous team and foundation events. Several of these placements may qualify for national competition this month.
