The Dedman College Interdisciplinary Institute (DCII) provides a platform for collaboration and the exchange of ideas across academic disciplines, helping to forge connections between the physical sciences, social sciences, and humanities; between Dedman College and SMU’s professional schools; and between academia and the broader community. Serving as a dynamic center for intellectual life within
Dedman College and at SMU, the DCII brings together faculty, students, and members of the DFW community by sponsoring interdisciplinary research groups and symposia, graduate and undergraduate student research fellowships, and community lecture series. Through these programs the DCII promotes a culture of interdisciplinary problem-solving and knowledge creation to meet the world’s increasingly complex needs and challenges. The DCII is committed to promoting a free and open academic discourse across disciplines, world views, and lived experiences, and to providing an inclusive environment in which all members of the SMU community feel welcome and respected. Speakers express their own views and not necessarily the views of the DCII or SMU.
