Being career ready begins with seeing what is possible and meeting people who help open doors. So appreciative of Dr. Nish*ta Roy-Pope, CEO, and the Courage Builder team, who are committed to removing barriers and helping students see themselves as innovators and future leaders.

The 2026 Early Career Conference was one of the best! Students enhanced their networking skills as they connected with speakers, panelists, and employers and explored internships, externships, and other opportunities. Some discovered new career pathways in the blue economy and technology.

Thank you to Chancellor Mark Fuller; Dean Madan Annavarjula and the Charlton College of Business; Dean Robert Griffin and Jennifer Murphy in the College of Engineering; Dean Kevin Stokesbury, the School of Marine Science & Technology, and the UMassD Offshore Wind Program; Lauren Abad, Assistant Provost for Career & Workforce Development, Alyssa Snizek, Lisa Gavigan, and the entire UMassD Career Center; Peggy Dias, MBA, Natalie Ferreira, MBA, and the entire CITS team; and Amanda Browning and the UMASSD Frederick Douglass Unity House.

Special thanks to the employers who came out to support UMassD: New England Marine Monitoring, Jaia Robotics, NautIQ Technologies, Meditech, Sea Education Association, MathWorks, Dell Technologies, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, ValixAI, New Bedford Research & Robotics, and Deep Blue Composites.

A terrific evening with University of Massachusetts Dartmouth alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends at the Chancellor’s Reception on the Rooftop of The Envoy in Boston! 💙💛

Hearing alumni share what UMass Dartmouth meant to them and seeing them return to celebrate our students and the University was a reminder of why our work matters. We commit to graduating every student with rich academic, research, career, and leadership experiences ready to navigate the next phase of their life journey.

Many return and give of their time as leaders in residence, some recruit for internships and full time employment. All represent and support the Corsair community with pride.

Faculty and staff came out for the annual Open House spomsored by the Frederick Douglass Unity House. It was a wonderful evening of dinner, fun, and connection with our multicultural and BIPOC students!

Amazed by the students who work so hard to make the Unity House an engaging, welcoming space where their peers can find community and belonging. Their leadership helps students feel connected to campus and supports their success.

Our UMass Dartmouth community came together to honor and celebrate the life of Marvins Antoine—a student, teammate, friend, and proud member of our Corsair and Haitian communities.

Through heartfelt reflections, memories from his football teammates, candlelight, prayer, and moments of silence, we remembered Marvins for his infectious smile, his energy, his determination, and the way he encouraged and lifted up those around him.

It was especially moving to see our students, faculty, staff, teammates, friends, and community members surround Marvins’ family with such tremendous love and support. The evening reminded us that even in our deepest moments of grief, community matters—and none of us has to grieve alone.

May we continue to carry Marvins’ spirit forward by supporting one another, showing up for one another, and making every moment count.

We love you, Marvins. Forever a Corsair. 💙💛

Dear Students,

The UMass Dartmouth community has lost a very special Corsair. We recognize that losing a member of our community can affect each of us differently. You may experience grief, sadness, shock, confusion, anger, difficulty concentrating, or other emotions in the days and weeks ahead. There is no right way to respond to loss, and you do not have to navigate this difficult time alone.

Immediate Supportive Spaces
The Counseling Center and the Center for Religious & Spiritual Life are offering supportive spaces for students to come together, receive care, and connect with others who may also be affected by this loss.

Monday, September 21 at 12 p.m. - Frederick Douglass Unity House

Monday, September 21 at 5 p.m. - Library Grand Reading Room

These gatherings are meant to provide a safe, compassionate space. Students are welcome to talk, listen, reflect quietly, seek support, grab refreshments, or be in community with others. There is no expectation to share.

Ongoing Support
We will also offer a weekly student support circle for those who would benefit from continued connection and support throughout the semester.

Moving Forward Together: Finding Hope After Loss - A Student Support Circle

Grief can feel especially isolating while navigating college life, but you do not have to carry it alone. This supportive space allows students to connect with others who understand loss, share at their own pace, and explore healthy ways to cope with grief and care for themselves.

Beginning: Friday, October 16
When: Every Friday through the end of the semester
Time: 3 p.m.
Location: Counseling Center
Drop-ins are always welcome. Come when you need connection, a place to reflect, or additional support.

The University is planning a vigil this week and will let students know once we confirm the date and time. So in the days ahead, we encourage everyone to extend patience and compassion to themselves and to one another. Grief and trauma can affect sleep, concentration, emotions, relationships, and our ability to manage everyday responsibilities. We encourage you to reach out for support, whether now or later.

Whether you choose to talk, listen, reflect quietly, or be in the presence of others, you are welcome. We are Corsairs, and we will care for one another as we move through this difficult time together.

Sincerely,

Kimberly M. Scott, PhD
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

Dear UMass Dartmouth Community,

I am writing to share the tragic news that Marvins Antoine, a first-year student and member of the football team, passed away this morning. Another first-year student and fellow member of the football team, Kensley Macean, was injured in the same incident, which took place in Providence, Rhode Island.

Our hearts and prayers are very much with Marvins’ family, friends, classmates, and teammates as we mourn his loss together. We also send our prayers and best wishes for Kensley’s recovery, and hope that he will be able to resume his education here soon.

Please be assured that we have no reason to believe there is any ongoing threat to the UMass Dartmouth community. The appropriate law enforcement agencies are investigating the incident, and because this is an ongoing investigation, we cannot share more details at this time.

Special hours for the Counseling Center will be made available, and the after-hours Support Help Line can be reached at 508.910.4357. The Center for Religious and Spiritual Life has campus ministers from several faith traditions who provide confidential pastoral counseling and can be reached at 508.999.8872. Students are also encouraged to contact staff within the Frederick Douglass Unity House and the Center for Women, Gender & Sexuality for support.

Faculty and staff needing support are encouraged to access the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for free counseling by calling 844.393.4983 or visiting their website and entering the ID: UMASS.

Again, our thoughts and prayers are with Marvins’ and Kensley’s family, friends, teammates and classmates at this very sad time.

Best,

Mark A. Fuller
Chancellor
