Someone needs to hear this today. ❤️ What if the most powerful su***de prevention tool isn't technology, but human connection?
That's the message CEO Dr. Anthony Estreet, PhD, MBA, LCSW-C, shared in a Forbes Health feature on su***de prevention. Su***de’s impact reaches is devastating. “Families are left with profound grief, guilt and often silence,” he says. “Communities lose leaders, caregivers and loved ones.” While AI can help connect people with information and crisis resources, it can never replace the empathy, compassion, and clinical judgment of trained mental health professionals.

September is Su***de Prevention Month 💜

September is a time to raise awareness, encourage open conversations, and remind one another that help, hope, and support are available.

The School of Social Work recognizes and supports Su***de Prevention Month. Within the month of September look out for posts about events going on in our community that recognize and support su***de prevention. As social workers and members of our community, we believe in creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, valued, and supported. 🫂

Let’s work together to break the stigma, promote connection, and remind our community that no one has to face difficult moments alone.

You matter. Your story matters. 💜

Let's Talk about ✨ Self Care ✨

Take Care of Yourself & Our Space

Our Self-Care Space is here for you—to pause, breathe, recharge, and take a moment for yourself. Self-care is an important part of supporting your mental, emotional, and overall well-being, especially during busy and stressful times. 🧘🏼‍♀️

Help us keep this space welcoming for everyone:
• Follow the expectations and use the space for its intended purpose.
• Treat the space, supplies, and furniture with care.
• Return items to their proper place when you’re finished.
• Be respectful of others who may also need a quiet moment to reset.

Taking care of yourself matters. Taking care of the space matters, too. 💛

Women’s Equality Day 💜

Today, we celebrate Women’s Equality Day and recognize the courage, strength, and achievements of women who have worked to create greater equality and opportunities for all.

It’s a day to honor the progress we’ve made, recognize the work that continues, and celebrate the voices, leadership, and contributions of women in our communities. Together, we can continue building a future where everyone has the opportunity to learn, lead, succeed, and make a difference.

Service Is at the Heart of Social Work 💙

Bee-Coming Ambrosian Day! Our first week at SAU, before classes even start, some of our SSW staff and SAU students participated in Bee-Coming Ambrosian. We set out to community sites across the Quad Cities and dedicated our time to giving back to our community. We so enjoyed learning and working with the TMBC Lincoln Resource Center! Practicing life of an Ambrosian and experiencing what it truly means to live out one of the university's core values – Service.

As we begin a new school year, keep an eye out for service events and volunteer opportunities that our School of Social Work will be participating in throughout the year! We hope you’ll consider joining us and getting involved.

Service is more than just giving your time—it is a meaningful part of what it means to be a social worker. Our field is rooted in helping others, strengthening communities, advocating for change, and making a positive difference in the lives of those around us.

By participating in service opportunities, you’re not only supporting your community—you’re putting the values of social work into action. 🤝

Watch for upcoming opportunities and come serve alongside your School of Social Work family! We’d love to see you there! 💙
