We extend our sincere gratitude to all physical plant employees who have worked tirelessly over the past two weekends to clear the ice and snow from our premises. We also appreciate the extraordinary efforts of Jamie Moore and his grounds crew, who have not only worked the past two weekends but have also dedicated the past two weeks to this task, with some members sacrificing precious time with their families. If you encounter any of these individuals, please express your appreciation and bear with them as they strive to complete their tasks efficiently.

Happy June! This months feature employee is Shawn Barbee. Shawn joined our team in 2023, bringing over 9 years of gardening experience. Some of Shawn’s day to day duties include making sure the athletic fields are maintained and watered properly. He enjoys working with his team and the sense of family he gets from his coworkers. In his free time Shawn enjoys playing guitar. He’s been playing for 5 years and is currently practicing for tryouts for his worship team.

I’ve been slacking big time on this but I’m back with another employee feature, this month we recognize Mr. Tim Wally. This June will mark Tim’s 22nd year in the grounds department , where he began as a groundskeeper and has since been promoted to grounds foreman / assistant superintendent. Tim enjoys watching all the changes that have occurred over his 22 years here. He enjoys the flexibility of where the day will take him and being a part of making this a beautiful campus. Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his family. Thank you Tim for all your hard work and dedication!

Today, we held a retirement luncheon to honor Mark & Julie Knox, who are both retiring this month. Mark has been with the college for 34 years, starting his career as a mechanic and retiring as the energy management technician. Julie has been with the college for 40 years, starting her career in the cafe and retiring as the work order desk assistant. This post would be forever long if I wrote all the wonderful stories I’ve heard about both so if you have any stories to share please do so, I’m sure everyone would love the memories! Their plans for retirement include ATV trips, travel, volunteering at their church, and restoring a 68 Camero. We wish them a happy retirement!!

Zach Derberry, or “Mr. October,” is our featured employee of the month. He has been an integral part of the physical plant team for almost 11 years, advancing from 2nd shift to carpentry and now electrical technician. WDAV has undergone a recent interior update featuring refreshed paint and a beautiful display wall showcasing their awards and published features in various newspapers and magazines accumulated over the years, providing a platform to highlight future achievements. Thank you to Brian W and Brian B in the paint department and to Jonathan ,Jim and Carlos in carpentry for helping make this a reality for Kendra and everyone involved in this project.
