This special occasion marked an important step in our students’ professional journey as they continue their path toward becoming future pharmacists dedicated to serving their communities with excellence, compassion, and leadership.

Surrounded by faculty, staff, family members, and guests, our students were recognized for their hard work, commitment, and growth as they move forward in their pharmacy education.

We are proud to congratulate Nada Alshahrani, Ph.D. candidate on publishing her first research article in INNOVATIONS in Pharmacy under the mentorship of Basma Gomaa, Ph.D. assistant professor. Her study explores opioid-related conversations on Twitter/X using social network analysis, highlighting key themes like fentanyl, overdose, and the opioid crisis. The research also reveals the growing influence of health-focused and AI-driven accounts in shaping online public health discussions.

☀️ Summer Wellness Reminder: Stay Safe in the Heat

As we enter the summer season, the NSU Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy encourages our community to take simple steps to protect their health during hot and humid days.

High temperatures can affect anyone, especially older adults, children, individuals with chronic conditions, outdoor workers, and those taking certain medications. Before spending time outdoors, remember to:

💧 Stay hydrated throughout the day
🌤️ Limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours
🧴 Use sunscreen and protective clothing
🏠 Stay in cool or shaded areas when possible
💊 Ask your pharmacist if any medications may increase heat sensitivity
🚨 Know the signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, headache, nausea, heavy sweating, weakness, or confusion

With National Heat Awareness Day approaching on May 29, this is a great reminder that prevention starts with awareness. Your pharmacist can be an important resource for safe medication use and summer wellness guidance.
