We feature a wholly online BA degree, a wholly online MA degree and 4 graduate certificates in Human Rights Practice. These are professionally oriented programs designed to provide participants wi

th the foundational knowledge, critical perspectives, and practical skills to advance human rights around the globe. Our four graduate certificates include:

Human Rights Practice (12 Credits)
Human Rights and Documentary Media (18 Credits)
Human Rights and Technology (15 Credits)
Gender-Based Violence (15 Credits)

Students in each program will graduate with a portfolio of applied work, a large network of contacts, and marketable skills for the practice and application of human rights. They will help produce white papers, webinars, shadow reports, and other forms of human rights work. Prof. Mette Brogden has received the 2026 Distinguished Faculty Outreach Award from the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) at the University of Arizona. An anthropologist, Dr. Brogden is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Human Rights Practice Program in the School of Global Studies.

Congratulations to Mette on this important recognition of her work in Ghana, Estonia, and beyond!

Congratulations to Prof. William Simmons, who is the recipient of the 2025 Human Rights and Higher Education Award, presented by the University and College Consortium on Human Rights Education (UCCHRE). Bill is a professor of Gender and Women's Studies in the School of Global Studies in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Arizona, where he was also the founder and the first director of the Human Rights Practice Program.

As the first international award in human rights education, the Human Rights and Higher Education Award recognizes outstanding contributions to human rights education by an individual, group, program, journal, or organization through work that embodies a commitment to human rights principles and rights-based practices.
