This cutie is Moxidectin! 🐈‍⬛💗

Fun fact: Moxidectin is actually a medication used in animals to prevent and control certain parasitic worms 🪱🤣 Moxi’s mom is a clinician, so the scientific name definitely makes sense!

Moxi recently enrolled in our Feline Microbiome Trial, where we’re evaluating how cefovecin, a commonly used antibiotic, affects the healthy bacteria that naturally live in the feline intestinal tract. 🔬🐱

A big thank you to Moxi and her family for helping contribute to veterinary research! 💙💛

Meet Maverick! 🐾💙

This sweet guy is enrolled in our PD-L1 fluorescence imaging clinical trial and has been such a wonderful patient throughout the start of his study visits! Here he is getting some extra special attention from Jasmine, one of our CTC, Clinical Trials Coordinators. 🥰

Maverick’s participation is helping researchers explore fluorescence-guided imaging as a tool to better identify cancerous tissue during surgery. 🔬✨

A huge thank you to Maverick and his family for being part of veterinary cancer research! 💙💛

This lovable giant is Daryl! 🐾💙 A participant in our PD-L1 metastatic immunotherapy trial.

This UC Davis clinical trial is exploring the use of a canine-specific PD-L1 antibody as an immunotherapy for dogs with cancer that had spread to the lungs. The study is evaluating the treatment’s safety, tolerated dose, and potential effectiveness. 💙💛

This study is now closed to enrollment, but we’re so grateful to Daryl and all the other participants and families who are helping contribute to veterinary cancer research!

We are big fans of Ms. Dunder! 🤩💙

Dunder is currently being treated by our Medical Oncology team for her recently diagnosed suspected primary pulmonary carcinoma. While she was here, she also enrolled in our Pulmonary Carcinoma Study!

This study includes three groups of dogs: healthy controls, dogs with pulmonary carcinoma, and dogs with non-cancerous pulmonary disease. By comparing results across these groups, we hope to identify blood-based biomarkers that can better predict how lung cancer will behave and help guide future treatment decisions.

✨💛 Meet the newest member of our team! Welcome, Dr. Kara Maslyn! 🥳

We are so excited to welcome VCCT’s 2026 Medical Oncology Intern, Dr. Kara Maslyn!

After earning her DVM from Colorado State University in 2024, Dr. Maslyn completed a rotating internship at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, followed by a specialty internship in medical oncology at a private practice in Minnesota.

Her passion for veterinary oncology is deeply personal. She was inspired by several beloved family pets, including Molly, a Golden Retriever diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma; Bailey, another Golden Retriever who battled lymphoma; and Charles, her Balinese cat, who is now an amazing 7 years cancer-free after pancreatic adenocarcinoma. These experiences gave Dr. Maslyn firsthand insight into how meaningful advances in cancer care can be. 💛

She’s also the proud dog mom of Lady Bug (yes… another Golden! 😆), who participated in Colorado State University’s VACCs cancer prevention vaccine trial, a study that was also conducted here at UC Davis. 💙💛

We couldn’t be happier to welcome such a kind, compassionate, and enthusiastic veterinarian to the VCCT team. We’re excited for all she’ll accomplish and look forward to the impact she’ll make for our patients, clients, and research community. 🎉🐾

Meet Monsieur Blue! 💙

With his signature topknot and sweet personality, Monsieur Blue stole all of our hearts during his enrollment and beginning of treatment in our Fluorescence Imaging PDL1-IRDye800 Surgical Trial for dogs with oral cancer.

Blue was an absolute gentleman throughout every visit! Patient, cooperative, and always ready to charm everyone he met. His wonderful family made the entire experience even more heartwarming, and we’re so grateful for their commitment to Blue and helping advance veterinary research. 💙🐾

With very heavy yet grateful hearts, we want to honor and thank Zinka and her family for their incredible contribution to the UC Davis Veterinary Center for Clinical Trials. 💙🐾

Zinka was truly one of a kind and quickly captured the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Through her strength, trust, and participation, Zinka helped advance veterinary medicine and saved lives in more ways than one.

We are deeply honored to have been part of her care team and to have witnessed the love and dedication her family showed throughout her journey. Their commitment to Zinka’s health, happiness, and our shared mission of improving the lives of future patients will never be forgotten.

Congratulations, Ken! 🥳🐾

Sweet Ken has officially completed our PDL-1 immunotherapy clinical trial for his previously diagnosed metastatic squamous cell carcinoma. Even better, today’s imaging continues to show no disease progression!

We are incredibly grateful to be part of Ken’s journey and to work alongside such a loving, supportive family who has always prioritized the best possible care for him.

We’d also like to extend our thanks to Sino Biological for manufacturing and supplying the investigational PDL-1 therapeutic used in this clinical trial. Partnerships like these make innovative cancer research and new treatment possibilities for our veterinary patients possible. 💚
