As the UC Davis School of Law student chapter of Animal Legal Defense Fund, we are grateful for Ms. Johnson-McKewan ('85), a partner at the prestigious law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, who generously represents the organization as a pro bono client!

Our alum of the month is Karen Johnson-McKewan '85, partner at Orrick in San Francisco. She specializes in litigation and devotes her time to pro bono work; serving on the board of directors for The Marine Mammal Center, and representing the Animal Legal Defense Fund.

As a double Aggie, she discovered her love of writing and initially worked towards a career in journalism during her time at King Hall. She later developed an affinity towards litigation when she realized that it would lead towards stability in her career.

We were thrilled to send 5 of our members up to Portland this past weekend to attend the Animal Law Conference!
We were able to learn so much about the field & network with other law students, attorneys, and more. We also got to experience a gorgeous weekend in Portland!
In our excitement, we forgot to take a group photo, but we did snap this photo of the Farmed Animals panel (one of our favorite panels!).
We are full of energy and have lots of ideas, so stay tuned.
Thanks to the Animal Legal Defense Fund and Lewis & Clark Law School for putting on a fantastic event and special thanks to ALDF for funding our attendance!
