Ph.D. candidate Antoinette Banks has been selected as an Echoing Green Fellow for her company, Expert IEP!

The Echoing Green Fellowship connects leaders across industries with the tools, resources, and communities they need to bring their ideas to life and make the world a better place.

The fellowship will support Antoinette in making the special education system and IEP (Individualized Education Program) process in the United States easier for students and families to navigate. Congratulations, Antoinette!

Akirah Bradley-Armstrong, Ed.D. '17 has been named vice chancellor for student life at MIT. She will begin her new role on October 19 and will include leadership and support of various areas of student life, including dining, student organizations and events, athletics, living communities, and more.

Teaching might have a reputation for being a difficult profession, but as Dean Tom Smith said at our credential kickoff earlier this month, "There are many hard jobs out there. At UC Davis, Prof. Jenni Higgs is researching AI literacy in K-12 classrooms. In the San Juan Unified School District, teachers are helping students learn how to use these new technologies responsibly.

"Our work with students shows that they're super interested in what these technologies are doing in their lives, and they're also worried," Prof. Higgs told CBS news.

At the heart of both Higgs' work and the work of teachers like San Juan Unified's Kathleen Records is understanding how human influence shapes the technology itself, as well as how we use it.

Alumnus Michael Bedoya (Cred. '21, M.A. '22) received both the Dinuba Unified School District and Tulare County Teacher of the Year awards!

Michael teaches social science and broadcasting and "exemplifies what it means to educate the whole child while fostering belonging, character, and pride within the school community," according to the Tulare County Office of Education.

This summer, Prof. Margarita Jimenez-Silva was a keynote speaker at Northern Illinois University's Summer Camp for Responsive Education. This year's event focused on culturally responsive teaching and leading, looking at pedagogies and practices that benefit all students.
