Thank you, Andy and Susie Turrentine, for so generously opening your home to WSU MoPix students!

Andy Turrentine’s wife, Susie, made it clear that Andy must to go to the Preservation Dayton presentation recently, but she didn’t specify why. He was, of course, winning an Excellence in Preservation Award from the group for his work on his home on June Street in Dayton.

We're sad to report that we've lost another MoPix alum. JT Anderson (J. Todd, to some) died of cancer in California, with his sister by his side. Best known as the Coen brothers' longtime storyboard artist, he also appeared in several films, including as the Victim in Fargo (a role that put him on the poster) and as the Comic Store Clerk in Paul. A diverse storyteller, he directed two features, published a book of his storyboards for The Big Lebowski, co-hosted Filmically Perfect (listen below), and wrote the words and music for the pop musical Nativity. He also generously shared his stories and knowledge with emerging filmmakers whenever they asked.

Rest well, JT. We'll raise a glass to you tonight.

Hannah Beachler’s story is rooted far away from the red carpets of Hollywood. It is the story of a young girl from Centerville, Ohio, who always had an eye for design. A student at Wright State University who juggled the responsibilities of being a single mother with the rigors of a demanding motion pictures program.

Beachler’s work on “Black Panther” led to her first Academy Award nomination and her historic milestone as the first African American to win an Oscar for Best Production Design.

“Wright State made it possible for me to do what I do.”

Congrats to Nicole!

Wright State University graduate Nicole Riegel is among the newest members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The Jackson, Ohio, native’s credits include “Dandelion” and “Holler”, which notably received a Film Independent Spirit Award nominee for Best First Feature and was named one of the Top 10 Independent Films of 2021 by National Board of Review. She was also listed by Variety as one of “10 Directors to Watch.”

Riegel graduated from Wright State in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in motion pictures. She also produced plays in Wright State’s Directing Lab.

The International Cinematographers Guild (ICG, IATSE Local 600) has chosen alum and faculty member Amy Faust as one of seven honorees to receive the prestigious 2026 Emerging Cinematographer Award (ECA)!

The ECAs honor ICG members who are not yet classified as directors of photography, identifying the next generation of visionary filmmakers and highlighting their skill as visual storytellers.

Congrats, Amy, we are so proud of you!
