Counseling and Wellness Services launched the Students Providing Advocacy, Resources and Knowledge (SPARK) Peer Education Program in January, creating a team of students who educate, advocate and connect fellow Raiders with campus resources to promote mental health, healthy lifestyles and overall well-being.

The SPARK program at Wright State uses peer-to-peer education to make conversations about wellness more approachable for students.

Wright State University welcomed more than 2,400 new and returning residential students to its Dayton Campus for the start of the 2026 Fall Semester — the highest number of on-campus residents in more than a decade. This year’s total continues a three-year increase in students choosing to live on campus.

Wright State will help new and transfer students transition into college life with Weeks of Welcome, a six-week program designed to build community and support student success.

FirstGen Forward named Wright State University to its Class of 2026, joining a select national network of institutions committed to enhancing the first-generation student experience through evidence-based practices and data-driven strategies, leading to increased retention and graduation rates.

During Wright State’s 2025-26 academic year, 28.9% of undergraduates and 45.8% of first-year students at the Dayton campus self-identified as first-generation students.

Last week, 41 teacher education graduates were able to shop for a variety of school supplies free of charge thanks to a partnership with local nonprofit Crayons to Classrooms. These new educators drove away with over $45,600 worth of free school supplies to help them prepare for the school year.

The Wright State University and Premier Health Nursing Academy is helping more students pursue nursing careers through financial support, hands-on clinical experience, and a direct pathway to employment.

The program provides eligible nursing students with up to $8,000 in annual tuition assistance from Premier Health. Combined with Wright State University scholarships and available federal and state financial aid, the support helps make earning a nursing degree more accessible, enabling students to complete their degrees and launch careers that strengthen and retain the nursing workforce across the Dayton region.

From helping second-year students build connections and confidence to creating dedicated spaces for presentation practice and virtual interviews, 11 new projects, funded through the Wright State University Foundation’s Students First Fund, will strengthen student success in meaningful ways.

The foundation awarded $75,000 in Students First Fund grants for 2026 to support innovative ideas from faculty, staff and students at the Dayton and Lake campuses. The initiatives focus on enhancing engagement, academic achievement, career readiness and campus life.
