AJ Cohen, we miss you.

Twenty four years ago today, December 10th, AJ passed away in a tragic fire at his UD off campus house.

AJ was a senior wide receiver who had finished up his senior year a few short weeks before.

AJ was such an upbeat young man and had such an impact on his fellow players that the “FLYER OF THE YEAR AWARD” is named after him. The award is given to the player who:
“Smiles twice as much,
Is humble twice as much, who loves others twice as much”.

The 2024 winner of the Dayton Football programs AJ Cohen Flyer of the Year award is Logan Foody. Logan is a senior from Nashville and he sure does make the guys smile a lot, both on and off the field.

Congratulations to Logan as we celebrate the life of AJ who left us way too soon.

It was a cold and grey Minnesota day yesterday for the Flyers. Dayton lost to the St. Thomas Tommies 32-9.

Dayton finishes the 2024 campaign at 6-5, 4-4 in PFL play.

For a late November Saturday in Minnesota this afternoon the weather was actually pretty good. It was dry, in the low to mid 30’s the entire day and there was not much of a breeze at all.

The Gridiron Flyers had to settle for a Danny Baker field goal after the Dayton “D”, led by Gideon Lampron and Aiden McKinley got them the ball with a strip sack and recovery early in the first quarter.

Dayton was then held scoreless until the fourth quarter when Senior Jack Coleman caught a 13 yard TD pass from Drew VanVleet.

The Dayton defense was once again led by the group of Coleman, McKinley and Lampron. In his last game as a Flyer, Ca’Ron Coleman had nine tackles, six solo, and two tackles for a loss.
Junior Gideon Lampron also finished with nine tackles, five solo, two for a loss, one sack and a fumble recovery. Senior Aiden McKinley had two sacks, seven tackles and a forced fumble on the day.

With the 6-4 season the Flyers improved from last seasons 4-7 year and will use this season as another building block in the programs storied history.

The Flyers started the 100+ day battle of the 2024 football season back in August when the temp’s were in the 90’s and are finishing up the season in Minneapolis/St. Paul today where the temps will be in the mid 30’s.

This week was a classic Ohio weather week for the Gridiron Flyers, Tuesday and Wednesday you could still get away with wearing shorts and a hoody, but on Thursday winter arrived, temps in the high 20’s and low 30’s, and Dayton set a record for snowfall that day.

After practicing in the snow on Thursday Dayton was back out Friday morning in the cold before their flight to Minnesotafor today’s game.

Dayton is looking for its seventh win on the ‘24 season, its 5th PFL win of ‘24 and the 712th win in program history.
