Student Animals & Society Institute , U of M Dearborn We are an affiliate of a national organization, the Animals & Society Institute, & advocate for the compassionate & humane treatment of animals everywhere.

The focus of S.A.S.I. is to raise awareness regarding animal abuse and neglect, and provide education about institutionalized cruelty towards animals. We educate students about breed discrimination, puppy mills, and other cruelty practices. Our members volunteer at local animal shelters and rescues and work to help animals in need find loving homes. Additionally, we strive to increase community in

volvement in fostering, adopting and sponsoring homeless or in need animals. Our organization also provides information regarding the problem of pet overpopulation and the importance of spaying/neutering companion animals as a necessity for combating this issue. Additionally, S.A.S.I. advocates for more punitive legislation for individuals found guilty of harming animals. S.A.S.I. also educates students about the cruelty and inhumane practices of factory farms, the fur industry, and research facilities, and the suffering that animals endure as a result. We also provide resources for assistance in living a cruelty-free lifestyle. We further work to promote compassion and empathy in university students through advocating and empowering animals who cannot actively speak on their own behalf.
