Student Animals & Society Institute , U of M Dearborn

Student Animals & Society Institute , U of M Dearborn We are an affiliate of a national organization, the Animals & Society Institute, & advocate for the compassionate & humane treatment of animals everywhere.

The focus of S.A.S.I. is to raise awareness regarding animal abuse and neglect, and provide education about institutionalized cruelty towards animals. We educate students about breed discrimination, puppy mills, and other cruelty practices. Our members volunteer at local animal shelters and rescues and work to help animals in need find loving homes. Additionally, we strive to increase community in

volvement in fostering, adopting and sponsoring homeless or in need animals. Our organization also provides information regarding the problem of pet overpopulation and the importance of spaying/neutering companion animals as a necessity for combating this issue. Additionally, S.A.S.I. advocates for more punitive legislation for individuals found guilty of harming animals. S.A.S.I. also educates students about the cruelty and inhumane practices of factory farms, the fur industry, and research facilities, and the suffering that animals endure as a result. We also provide resources for assistance in living a cruelty-free lifestyle. We further work to promote compassion and empathy in university students through advocating and empowering animals who cannot actively speak on their own behalf.

Some of S.A.S.I.'s members volunteering with C.H.A.I.N.E.D., Inc. in Detroit on Saturday. They helped to provide doghouses, straw, food, treats, and love to the dogs, as well as educate the owners about proper care and the importance of spaying/neutering. GREAT experience, check out Chained's Fb page if you're interested in learning more, donating an item off of their wishlist, or volunteering. :)

Please visit the campaign website dedicated to reinstating protection for the fewer than 700 Michigan wolves who can now legally be hunted for sport!! 225,000 signatures need to be collected in less than 75 days in order to get this issue on the ballot. The website has a signature collection signup and the campaign will mail you materials directly, enabling you to officially collect signatures on your own. We will start collecting signatures at U of M-Dearborn within the next week, so be on the lookout!

With just 687 wolves in Michigan and more than 50 years spent to recover them, we need to Keep Michigan Wolves Protected.
