Sharing news, accomplishments and the a-maize-ing things happening on our campus. CECS is a vibrant and diverse community that includes more than 1800 undergraduates, 1200 graduate students, and 70 tenured and tenure-track faculty across a wide-array of disciplines. The mission of the college is supported by advisory boards of alumni and industrial leaders, faculty committees, and a dedicated team

of department, research, and instructional staff. We currently offer 11 undergraduate degree programs (plus two concurrent degree programs), along with 15 master’s and 6 Ph.D. Most master level programs are also available through asynchronous distance learning. Additionally, undergraduate students have the option to participate in a cooperative education track.

One of the most important parts of pursuing a PhD is having the support to focus on your research. CECS offers four fully funded PhD programs. Through appointments as Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs), Graduate Student Research Assistants (GSRAs), or a combination of both, doctoral students receive a competitive monthly stipend, health insurance, and a tuition waiver.

Come see the world’s first all-electric NASCAR on campus!

The ABB/NASCAR EV prototype will be on campus at the ELB Wednesday, August 26 from 2pm – 4pm.

Get up close and look under the hood of this 1,360-horsepower machine. Professional NASCAR driver David Ragan will talk about the difference between driving a combustion NASCAR Cup Series car and this new EV prototype.

At 3pm, there will be a panel discussion with ABB, driver David Ragan, and U of M Dearborn faculty to discuss the future of EV in motorsports and beyond.

Exciting news for future engineers! 🎓〽️

The University of Michigan-Dearborn and Oakland Community College (OCC) have established eight new transfer pathways, enabling OCC Pre-Engineering students to pursue bachelor’s degrees in eight engineering majors within UM-Dearborn’s College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Signed on August 4, 2026, these articulation agreements create a more seamless transfer experience by providing students with clear, structured plans for applying their OCC credits toward a UM-Dearborn degree. The agreements also open the door to expanded collaboration between the two institutions.

The pathways include:

Alpaslan Arslan, an undergraduate student in Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence, is a Machine Learning Security Research Intern at UM-Dearborn.

"This experience has strengthened my research, critical thinking, and technical problem-solving skills while providing valuable insight into real-world AI security challenges. My favorite part of the internship was collaborating closely with my professor, whose mentorship made exploring this emerging field both engaging and rewarding. I plan to continue conducting research with my professor in the CIS Department while applying what I have learned throughout the term of my summer research experience!"

Mashud Alfoyez is majoring in Computer Science, and this summer he's working as a Data Systems Engineering Co-op at Bosch USA.

"So far, I have gained hands-on experience with data systems, automation, AI, software engineering, technical infrastructure, and data storage projects. My favorite part has been applying classroom knowledge to real-world challenges and learning from experienced professionals. This experience has strengthened my skills and prepared me for my future career in technology."

Senior Christian Nwobu is helping develop a system that would allow swarms of autonomous space drones to communicate with each other using light. The work, conducted in Assistant Professor of Computer and Information Science Xiao Zhang’s lab, is supported by the Michigan Space Grant Consortium.
