Meet RAVEN, one of the projects created at senior design day!

RAVEN is a compact, handheld-controlled robotic platform built to help emergency responders safely inspect confined or hazardous indoor spaces from a distance. With live visible-light and thermal imaging, terrain-ready maneuverability, and automated temperature alerts, RAVEN improves situational awareness during fire response, search-and-rescue, and other high-risk operations—helping keep responders safer when every second counts.

Bruna Rocha gained invaluable real-world experience through her internship at Tesla.

“My internships at Tesla gave me exposure to real-world engineering problems and fast-paced manufacturing environments,” she said. “I worked on design and manufacturing-related challenges, which helped me connect what I learned in class to actual applications. I also developed skills in problem-solving, communication, and working across teams.”

Internships can be a powerful way to apply classroom learning, build confidence, and explore future career paths. Read the latest blog to learn more about why internships are so important.

CECS is pleased to highlight three student-centered undergraduate initiatives from 2026–2027 that reflect the KEEN Framework’s 3Cs: Curiosity, Connections, and Creating Value.

🔹 PIPE — Promoting Innovation in Project-Based Education: A December showcase where students tackle real-world societal and industry challenges through hands-on projects, including a first-year competition and multidisciplinary project showcase.

🔹 EPIC — Entrepreneurship, Practice and Innovation Center: AA hub for students to explore innovation, entrepreneurship, intellectual property, and startup development, including hands-on experience through the Intellectual Property Clinic.

🔹 Senior Design Day: An April celebration of CECS seniors’ creativity, technical expertise, and innovation. The 2026 event featured 329 seniors, 77 projects, and 58 industry judges.

Together, these initiatives help students turn ideas into impact through engineering and computer science.
