When James Spann visits, you know it is going to be a great day—rain or shine! ☀️⛈️

We were honored to welcome James to J.F. Ingram State Technical College’s Main Campus in Deatsville for an up-close look at our programs and mission.

During his tour, James visited several career technical education programs and spoke directly with instructors about the hands-on training, technical skills and industry-recognized credentials our students gain. Along the way, he also spoke with President David Walters about Ingram State’s unique role in preparing justice-involved students for employment, successful reentry and brighter futures.

Thank you, James, for taking the time to meet our team, experience our programs and learn more about the life-changing work happening every day at Ingram State!

Congratulations to Dr. Ira Phillips and Dr. Sheree Booker, who were honored by Dismas Charities’ Residential Reentry Center in Montgomery for their leadership and commitment to preparing justice-involved individuals for successful reentry.

Through the Partners for Reentry Opportunities in Workforce Development (PROWD) Grant, their efforts have helped participants achieve:
• 30+ ACE-MAP completions
• 25+ OSHA-10 certifications
• 25+ forklift certifications
• 20+ CDL-A licenses

These accomplishments represent more than credentials—they represent new skills, greater employment opportunities and pathways toward self-sufficiency.

We are proud of Dr. Phillips and Dr. Booker for their dedication to transforming lives through education, workforce training and meaningful community partnerships.

Yesterday, members of J.F. Ingram State Technical College’s Administrative Council and staff participated in a Reentry Simulation presented in partnership with the UAB - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

Through this interactive experience, participants encountered many of the barriers individuals may face when returning to society after incarceration, including finding employment and housing, securing transportation, managing finances and meeting reentry requirements.

For Ingram State, understanding these challenges is essential. It helps our employees better recognize the needs of our students and strengthens our ability to provide education, workforce training and support that prepare them for employment and successful reentry.

Following the simulation, participants toured ISTC’s Main Campus and learned more about the programs and services that support our students as they prepare for their next chapter.

We appreciate UAB for bringing this meaningful experience to Ingram State and thank everyone who participated.

A program is more than a course of study—it can be the first step toward a new future.

During the first week of Fall 2026 classes, we asked our students why they chose their programs. Their answers were personal, honest and filled with purpose.

Each student has a different reason for starting, but they share one goal: gaining the skills, knowledge and confidence to build a better future.
This is why they chose their path. Now, the work begins.

Partnerships like this help give our students the tools they need to build successful futures!

Earlier this week, J.F. Ingram State Technical College joined Mid-South RC&D officials and other grant recipients for a recognition ceremony celebrating the impact of grant-funded projects across Elmore County.

Through more than $12,000 in funding from Mid-South RC&D, Ingram State purchased Snap-on tools and equipment for the Plumbing program at Draper Instructional Service Center. The new equipment enhances hands-on instruction and helps students develop the skills needed to enter the workforce prepared for success.

We are grateful to Mid-South RC&D for investing in our students, our programs and the future of Alabama’s workforce.

Ingram State faculty and staff came together August 17–18 for our 2026 Fall Institute—two days of learning, collaboration and preparation for the year ahead.

Sessions focused on the correctional environment, student engagement, workforce development, institutional growth and strengthening the partnerships that support our students and mission.

We sincerely thank each presenter, panelist and partner who shared their time, knowledge and experience. We also appreciate the employees who worked behind the scenes to plan, coordinate and make the institute a success.

We left with a renewed sense of purpose and a shared message: every employee is essential, every role matters and the work of Ingram State changes lives.

🎤 How well do you know Ingram State?

We put a few of our employees to the test during Fall Institute with some completely random Ingram State questions! 👀

Name three welding instructors. Who processes travel? And a few others that had some of our employees thinking on their feet. 😂

Some knew the answers immediately. Some needed a little help. And some answers… you’ll just have to hear for yourself. 🤣

Think you could do better? How many would you have gotten right? 👇
