On this #trideltatuesday we are spotlighting one of our beautiful seniors Morgan Timmons! She is a Digital Media Marketing Major from Mowequa, IL. A fun fact about her is that she is a sucker for dogs! Morgan loves Tri Delta because “the campus involvement, highest GPA baby, and I have become friends with people that I would have never became friends with because of Tri Delta”. We love you Morgan! 💙✨

In light of this worrisome time, we would like to take a moment to reflect back on some of the amazing accomplishments our sisters had this past semester.

Baylee Baxter and Hannah Haedike participated in a St. Jude Radiothon.
"We were able to meet people from the national level who had flown in to run the event & 3 other extremely lovely women who have supported St. Jude for years. They've ran the race in Peoria for many years now & really encouraged me to take part in it. It was quite moving every time a phone rang & someone was wanting to become a donor for life which usually equated to 20 dollars a month. Most of the people calling in had personal connections to either cancer or St. Jude & it was really moving to hear their stories & talk to so many diverse people coming together to support the same cause - a cause I love & care about so much." - Hannah Haedike

A number of our sisters attended the AAUW Smart Salary workshop provided to us by the National Tri Delta Organization. AAUW is an organization that works to empower women through education, research, and advocacy. The Smart Salary Workshop is a multipronged approach to closing the gender pay gap and to teach women the best way to fight for fair pay each and every day. Their hope is that all of the women who attend this workshop leave with a refreshed sense of confidence, critical negotiation skills, and a greater support network. Our women truly enjoyed this workshop and learned so much!

Val Chavez-Roncal and Millie Gegg played in Millikin's MDSO concert.
" We played Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and two pieces that featured student soloists, both of whom were Delta Sigs. They played Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto no. 2 and Keiko Abe’s 'Prism Rhapsody.'" - Val Chavez

Megan Batty, Delaney Schmidt, Emma Jean Lupp, Paige Neumeyer, Amanda Handegan, Marissa Hettle, Kenzie Parsons, and Allison Durham in Pipe Dream's Burlesque Underground production.
"Burlesque Underground is a Millikin University student organization that was established in 2016. In 2018, it won “Millikin’s Best New Student Organization” award. The purpose of Burlesque Underground is to create a social community that challenges dancers with various styles of movement while also increasing their personal confidence with body awareness and positivity. Burlesque Underground also strives to offer unconditional support to its members and to create an open and welcoming environment to all those who wish to audition. During our last show, an 80s styled performance titled Anyway You Want It, we raised $633 for Dancers Responding to Aids. And while our performance season has been cut short, we still plan to try and find ways to keep people involved and informed and we highly encourage EVERYONE to come out and audition again in the fall!
Burlesque Underground has been the student organization to have the largest impact on my time here at Millikin, aside from Tri Delta. Getting to be the President of this organization, one that has become so near and dear to my heart, has been extremely humbling and meaningful and I am beyond grateful. Burlesque Underground is truly a unique and beneficial organization that I am blessed to be a part of. I am so proud of the work we were able to accomplish during this year, even if it was cut short, and I am so excited to watch this organization grow and become even better!" - Megan Batty

Makenzie Vinson, Bre Johnson, Val Chavez-Roncal, and Hannah Haedike are all members of Phi Kappa Phi.
Their Mission: "To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others."
"with Phi Kappa Phi, only the top 7.5% of juniors & the top 10% of seniors get asked to join based on their GPA being above a 3.8 I believe. There's an initiation fee & I actually won the scholarship money to get that waved for myself upon entry into the organization. It's a real honor to be a part of such an elite society & once you're a member you're a member for life. It offers scholarship opportunities for the rest of your time in undergrad, scholarships for graduate school, free resume consultations, & free Skype chats with experts in your field of study. It's really cool already being awarded one scholarship from Phi Kappa Phi & I'm filling out more scholarship applications now for graduate school.
Being asked to join was such an honor because it was a reminder that hard work does not go unnoticed!" - Hannah Haedike

Jeana Pierson wrote a story for The Provost.
"Last semester in my Feature Writing class, I was assigned to work all semester on a story about Millikin’s Provost, Dr. Aper. I spent hours and hours talking with him and learning about the ups and downs of his career. I found his story to be inspiring to all college students who aren’t quite sure what their future plans are. Dr. Aper started working as a plumber in college, he then worked his way from job to job, and finally he reached his dream job of being Provost. No matter what faced him, he never gave up and pushed on. And I think that is a lesson that every student on campus needs to hear.”

Katie Curtis, Olivia Marquardt, and India Guerrero went on a study abroad trip to Costa Rica.
"The entire trip was so amazing. We started off in San Jose for the first night and it was really interesting to see the cultural differences between there and the U.S. The next morning we got up and went to La Selva Biological Station, which is in a rainforest. We got to see all kinds of organisms like sloths, monkeys, and PLENTY of leaf cutter ants, toucans, and so many more. After two days exploring the rainforest, we drove to Palo Verde Biological Station, which is in a dry forest. This is the 2nd best bird watching destination in the world! We got to see so many species of birds and some curious monkeys as well as an ocelot. A few days after we got to the dry forest, we began our research. Then we were off to Playa Hermosa, which is where we spent our last day. We went on a snorkeling tour and got to see some whales! Overall, we learned a lot about organisms and how they interact with each other and their environments. We got to see things that a lot of people never will and we are so grateful for the opportunity we got to go see these beautiful creatures." - Olivia Marquardt

These are only a few of all of the amazing things our sisters did this past semester. We are so proud and cannot wait to see what next fall brings us!
