Luther College Phonathon

Phonathon is one of Luther's largest outreach tools. Each year, students call alumni, family, and friends of Luther to raise money for the Luther Fund.

Over the years, Phonathon collectively has raised millions of dollars. Located in the basement of Loyalty Hall, Phonathon is a way for students to connect with Alumni, Parents, and Friends so that we all can give thanks for the experiences Luther offers. Thanks to donations from friends of Luther, students are able to access scholarships, improved student life, and greater opportunities to learn i

n community. Phonathon lets students engage with donors first hand and helps to keep us all connected with gifts that get put to work right away, where they are needed most.

Favorite Phonathon Memory: “I called a female alumni and her husband picked up and when I introduced myself that I was from Luther, he said to his wife that " Hey its Luther people come and give them money" Then the woman came on the phone and asked me " So do you need money? and I was like yes! so we both just ended up laughing so hard. I mean it was a very fun and beautiful moment for me and she was a very sweet and kind woman!”
Favorite Luther Memory: “Performing a song at the ISAA fashion show for the first time.”

A piece of advice for your first-year self: “Take it easy. I know you have a lot of expectations on yourself and you wanna meet them all but when things don't go as you planned, don't be so hard on yourself. Just take it easy, slow down and start over again because its okay, its okay to fall and rise up again.”

Happy Monday Luther friends and family!

This week is Philanthropy Week! It is a week where Luther students are able to show gratitude for the donors who make their Luther experience possible by writing personal letters to the contributors for their scholarships.

CURRENT STUDENTS: Make sure to stop by our table in the Union any day this week from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm to write thank you letters and you will be entered into a drawing to receive one of the following prizes: Nintendo Switch Lite or a Game Night Basket!

All of us at Luther are so grateful for those who donate and show support for Luther and our students in other ways. It is a gift that keeps on giving!

Fav Phonathon Memory: “As a Phonathon manager, I would answer the callback phone for anyone returning our calls that they had missed. One night, a man called back and I told him that this was the Luther College Phonathon and asked him if he was a Luther alum and he said, "There's actually four of us right here!" and then I heard yelling from four men who were all Luther alums and they were on their annual ski trip in Colorado. They all passed the phone around, they all donated, and I was able to talk to them all for about 30 minutes about their time at Luther and they asked me about mine. It was such a fun conversation and it is so cool that they are all still in touch with one another and are able to get together for this ski trip every year. It made me excited and optimistic about the lifelong friendships that I could make here at Luther. Hands down, the best phone call I have ever received!”
