Since 1997, CSEAS has been a federally funded National Resource Center for Southeast Asian studies. Guided by center staff and an interdisciplinary council of more than 20 NIU faculty members, the center offers undergraduate and graduate students scholarships and fellowships, language training in five major Southeast Asian languages, research opportunities in a variety of disciplines, cultural and networking opportunities, and extensive study-abroad options. It also supports community outreach projects, K-16 teacher training, and international educational exchange.
