Do you know what happens when the NIU Mars Rover Team trades tough terrain for open water? They win. 🏆🚤

Last week, the team, composed mostly of engineering students and led by president Joey Cervantes, captured first place in NIU’s Recycled Boat Race, a beloved Homecoming Week tradition.

Those two minutes of competition, navigated expertly by Gabriela Krusiec and Ryan Scipta, capped months of collecting recycled materials, designing and building.

And the victory will help fuel what comes next: The $1,000 prize will support the team’s rover project, including a battery, onboard computer and science instruments.

What a Homecoming week for CEET! 🎉

From another Huskie March takeover on Thursday to a packed tent on Saturday, it was an incredible week to connect with students, alumni, friends and supporters.

Adding to the excitement, our Mars Rover team captured first place in the Recycled Boat Race, earning a $1,000 prize that will help support the team's ongoing work.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, participated, volunteered and helped make Homecoming such a success. We were proud to see CEET right in the heart of the celebration all week long.

🎉 Homecoming Saturday is almost here!

Join CEET from 3:30 to 6 p.m. in The Yard outside Huskie Stadium as we celebrate NIU Homecoming.

In two weeks, join Christine Nguyen, chair of our Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering, for "Unplanned: A Career Built on Open Doors."

Dr. Nguyen will share how a goal of becoming a doctor evolved into an engineering career that connected her with people and industries across manufacturing, education, logistics and healthcare. Her story highlights the value of staying open to unexpected opportunities and having the courage to walk through new doors.

🚀 The largest CEET Job & Internship Fair turnout in at least seven years!

On Tuesday, 64 employers came to the Barsema Alumni & Visitors Center to connect with Huskie engineering students, creating opportunities for internships, careers and professional connections.

Representatives from organizations including Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, Collins Aerospace, Woodward, Danfoss, UL Solutions, International Motors, Baxter & Woodman, Clune Construction, Renishaw, Motorola Solutions and many others spent the day meeting with students and discussing future opportunities.

We're especially proud of the many positive comments we heard about our students' qualifications, preparedness and professionalism.

This is what bridging theory with practice looks like: connecting classroom learning with real-world career opportunities.

This week, our Huskie Motorsports team has been proudly representing CEET at the International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago, one of the world's premier manufacturing events.

Team members have been educating, encouraging and inspiring students and industry professionals as they showcase the ingenuity and tenacity that have become a hallmark of Huskie Motorsports.

Being an engineering student is tough enough. Taking on a leadership role, too? That's next-level commitment.

Last week, we had the opportunity to meet with many of the student leaders who help drive CEET’s vibrant community of organizations. They are balancing demanding coursework while also leading teams, organizing events, managing projects and helping fellow students succeed.

Their efforts are a big reason why CEET's nearly 20 student organizations thrive. Whether they're designing and building vehicles for Huskie Motorsports, competing with Mars Rover and Supermileage teams, advancing robotics projects, or creating opportunities for professional growth and networking, these student leaders make our college stronger every day.
