"It really helped me build my confidence. It proved to me that I am capable of reaching my goals and getting to where I want to be in the medical field." - Abrianna Hite '28

This summer, Abrianna Hite ’28 took what she's learning at OWU into the emergency room, completing the university’s first Young/Gatz Academic Emergency Medicine Fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

With mentorship from OWU alumnus Dr. David Gatz ’10, Abrianna shadowed clinical shifts, attended medical school conferences, and contributed to medical research. Her independent clinical case study, “Young Woman with Shortness of Breath,” has also been accepted for publication in the Journal of the American College of Emergency Physicians Open.

"Overall, I walked away with a much clearer picture of how to get to where I want to be," she said.

(Fun fact: Both Hite and Gatz grew up in Delaware and graduated from Hayes High School.)

Backed by $17 million in alumni philanthropy and partnerships with global technology companies, OWU is building one of the nation’s first named, endowed schools of engineering at a liberal arts college.

Today, we announced Paul E. Slaboch, Ph.D., P.E., as the founding dean of the Conrades School of Engineering. He’ll join OWU in January as we prepare to welcome our first class of mechanical engineering majors in fall 2027.

"Central Ohio's booming advanced-industry economy and the national competition for engineering talent have created an urgent need for engineers who combine deep technical command with judgment, adaptability, communication, and an understanding of the human consequences of their work," said President Matt VandenBerg. "Ohio Wesleyan formulated the Conrades School of Engineering with unusual precision around that need and backed that design with exceptional philanthropic resources and industry partnerships."

“My Federal Reserve internship has been especially valuable because it allowed me to apply what I have learned at OWU in a professional setting and helped me better understand the type of career I want to pursue after graduation.”

Isaiah DeLeon ’28 spent 12 weeks over the summer as a Real Estate Services intern at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas’ Houston Branch. A Finance and Business Administration double major with minors in Data Analytics and Spanish, Isaiah put what he’s learning at OWU into practice, conducting research and analysis to help identify opportunities to reduce costs across maintenance and cleaning services throughout Federal Reserve facilities.

He also explored how AI tools and data could help improve internal processes and support better decision-making.
