The American Heart Association (AHA) released the updated guideline for Adult Stroke Rehabilitation and Recovery, replacing the 2016 version. The new guideline assigns recommendations for screening, assessment, and treatment of post-stroke communication, cognition, and swallowing. 🫀✨🗣️🙌
"Overall, the updated AHA guideline highlights the integral role of the SLP on the interprofessional stroke rehabilitation team. It can serve as a guide for SLPs to identify optimal screening, assessment, and treatment methods, and can be used as a tool for demonstrating the value and skills of SLPs in supporting stroke survivors. A recently updated Guideline for Adult Stroke Rehabilitation and Recovery, released by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, assigns levels of recommendations for screening, assessment, and treatment of communication, cognition, and swallowing after stroke.

A South Carolina speech‑language pathologist proposed a plan showing how balancing SLP duties with coaching softball can strengthen the school community, and she’s been seeing benefits for five years. 🗣️🙌🥎✨
"Matsumoto says her work as an SLP and a coach both involve finding different ways to help students learn and apply skills. When she’s coaching, for example, she finds her CSD training enhances goal-setting and positive feedback. Graduate school taught her progress isn’t always linear, and everyone learns differently. So, even though her softball players work together as a team, Matsumoto sets individual player goals to help reach shared objectives. With her speech-language students, she draws on her athletic and coaching experiences to celebrate each small win—a motivation booster." -Hutchins. At the University of South Alabama, an audiologist and a physical therapist coordinate care for vestibular and balance patients in campus clinics using diagnostics to guide targeted rehabilitation from screening to hands-on treatment. 👩‍⚕️👍⚖️👂
"When we work together as a cohesive healthcare team in this fashion, rather than as isolated practitioners, it changes the entire patient experience. Audiologists can assist with providing the primary identification, and PTs can provide functional rehabilitation to restore confidence and safety. To kick off Latinx Heritage Month, we are celebrating our Spanish-English Bilingual Concentration in our Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology Program! ❤️💛💚

"Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work with individuals with communication disorders and differences. Colorado consistently faces a shortage of SLPs who identify as Spanish-English bilingual. Additionally, disparities in age of diagnosis and access to services in public schools, hospitals and other clinical settings are common among clients from Hispanic/Latinx/o/a backgrounds.

The Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MS-SLP) at Metropolitan State University of Denver is actively working to reduce the shortage of bilingual SLPs in Colorado. The bilingual concentration includes three classes, Foundations of Bilingualism, Bilingual Service Delivery in Early Intervention and Schools, and Bilingual Service Delivery in Medical/Clinical Settings, and an optional 3-week study abroad at the Centro de Rehabilitación Integral de San Miguel de Allende " - Ilana Oliff, M.A., CCC-SLP

The Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program at MSU Denver is seeking a clinical administrator to assist with operations of the Bookhardt Family Speech-Language Clinic!

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, healthcare administration, speech-language hearing sciences, or related healthcare field or the equivalent combination of education and experience (please note that two years of experience equals one year of higher education)
- Spanish and English language proficiency (verbal and written)
- Familiarity with use of electronic medical records and HIPAA
- Experience working with clients or patients and staff from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, ability to work as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with medical billing
- HIPAA certified
- Familiarity with speech-language pathology scope of practice
- Previous experience with clinical or medical office administration
- SLPA certification or experience

Schedule Information:
- Part-time, 20 hours per week
- Exempt
- Hours: Monday (8am-5pm), Wednesday (8am-5pm), Friday (8am-2pm)
- Evenings and Weekend Work: Rarely
- Schedule: There is flexibility with the work schedule and hours with 2 days in person, on campus and some remote work possible
- Travel: None
