This week's is Whitney Peterson, a 2018 alumna who earned her master's degree from , with a concentration in museum & heritage studies. Her thesis research at the led to her current role at CyArk, where she uses 3D technology to make cultural heritage sites free and accessible to anyone with a screen.

“Cultural heritage has the power to share so much about our past but also inform our future,” Peterson said.

Earlier this summer, professors Joe Brown and Kareem El Damanhoury co-taught a video storytelling course at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility, in which they educated incarcerated individuals on and collaboratively worked on a short documentary about the role of art in incarceration.🎨

“I have always enjoyed teaching multimedia storytelling classes, but this one has been extra special,” El Damanhoury said. “As we all share human experiences of using art for self-expression, coping with challenging circumstances, and trying to thrive, art helps connect us.”

This week's is LJ Hansen, a recent graduate from the Lamont School of Music, University of Denver who earned her master’s degree in vocal performance this past June.

During her graduate program, Hansen embraced a feminist approach to musical research and performance, uncovering stories often overlooked in classical music. While the academic work was rewarding, the best part about her program was its community of singers.

"A lot of music programs are very competitive, but it did not feel like that in this program," Hansen said.

This week's is Kate Hall, a student double-majoring in and , who was selected as this year's recipient of the Bogard Scholarship, a prestigious honor in the department. Looking ahead, Hall plans to apply anthropological methods to her studies abroad, while keeping her options after graduation for opportunities in which she can foster inclusive, culturally aware learning environments.

"Courses like “Learning in Museums” at the have sparked my interest in education and public-facing cultural work," Hall said.

This week's is Frankie Kerkhof, a recent graduate of the master's program at the . For Kerkhof, pursuing a graduate degree at DU was about more than conducting research; it's about finding a community and a voice.

Kerkhof’s advice to prospective students is simple: get to know the people around you. "The program expects a lot of you, and there's a lot of work to do. The people in your program understand what you're going through, and they can become some of your closest friends," Kerkhof said.
