Externship and Capstone Profile - Student Voices - Sarah

I get the most personal fulfillment out of serving people directly, so it was important to me to find an externship that had the medical environment from which I could learn but was also about truly serving the patients. My externship at A... Family medicine fulfilled this goal as it primarily serves the refugee and immigrant populations of Denver. It inspired me to explore the trend and prevalence of type 2 diabetes among these minority populations for my capstone project.

Externship and Capstone Profile- Student Voices - Anita

The diversity of my externship experience inspired my capstone project thesis. I am grateful for this externship experience because it successfully merged several areas of interest. Medicine, psychology, biology and issues of social justice constantly collided in my encounters at the Kempe Center and Eastside Clinic. My ultimate goals are to practice medicine as a pediatrician working with vulnerable youth populations.

Each of our MS students creates an integrative capstone project before graduation. This project brings together the academic and experiential learning aspects of the MS experience and culminates in a poster session, where the students can show off their hard work.
