Heatwave tips for all pets 🌡️
High temperatures can be dangerous for dogs, cats and small pets but you can do some simple things to keep them cool, comfortable and ultimately- safe in the dangerously high temperatures we are experiencing this week.
🚫 AVOID:
- Leaving your pet in a car or closed space.
- Walking/letting out your pet during the hottest time of day. If you are unsure, do the pavement test (hold your hand on the surface for 5 seconds) if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your pet.
✅ DO:
- Provide shade from the direct sun, provide fresh, clean water regularly.
- Provide cooling matts, or nibble friendly alternatives like tiles for small pets.
- Create a 'cool room' by using fans (kept safely out of reach), closing curtains, and ensuring there is good ventilation. For small pets, place frozen water bottles near housing so they can lean against them.
