Honors Alumni Highlight✨
 
Congratulations to CU Denver Honors alumnus James Hermance on beginning his new role as Team Sports Coordinator at CU Boulder! 🎉
 
During his time in the University Honors & Leadership (UHL) program, James found more than academic opportunities. He found a community that shaped both his college experience and his career path.
 
Reflecting on his experience, James shares:
 
“The Honors Program helped me find my people. Through my courses, I gained new perspectives, and by working in the office, I discovered my passion for supporting students and helping them achieve their life aspirations.”
 
James also recommends taking courses from Dr. Fields and Tracy Jones to make the most of the Honors experience.
 
We’re so proud of you, James, and can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make at CU Boulder! 👏

🎬 Summer Activity Highlight: Violet Dempsey ☀️

This summer, Honors and Leadership student Violet Dempsey is gaining hands-on experience in the film industry through a EUReCa grant. As the Head of Wardrobe, Hair, and Makeup for a feature film set in the 1990s, Violet is helping bring the film’s visual style to life.

Her work has included conducting visual research, creating mood boards and lookbooks, designing costume mock-ups, and sourcing wardrobe pieces secondhand for the production.

Through this experience, Violet has learned the importance of communication and collaboration on a film set, sharing that “not everyone has the same communication styles, and you must work to understand how each person communicates.” She has also discovered that she can push herself and work through high-pressure situations.

One of her favorite parts of the experience has been seeing an actor put on their costume and love the final look.

✨ Honors Alumni Highlight✨

CU Denver Honors alumnus Sean Burns has built his path from campus involvement into a career in the federal court system. Through the University Honors & Leadership (UHL) program, Sean found community, connection, and a space that shaped his undergraduate experience.

Sean currently works as a Case Manager at the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and has a continued interest in pursuing a future in public interest and impact litigation.

Reflecting on his experience in UHL, Sean shares: “One way UHL impacted my experience was I found my best friends and explored my identity and values.”

Sean still enjoys being involved as an alum and volunteers as an assistant coach for the Men’s Club Basketball Team through .

Our Honors Scholars spent the semester pursuing their passions, conducting research, creating original projects, and taking their learning beyond the classroom. We are incredibly proud of the curiosity, dedication, and hard work that went into each honors contract.

From a high school graduating class of 74 students to navigating a campus of more than 60,000 students, CU Denver once felt overwhelming for Ana Fuentes Romero. Through the University Honors & Leadership (UHL) program, Ana found community, connection, and some of her favorite college memories.
 
Today, Ana works at Amwins Insurance Brokerage on a professional lines broking team, helping place coverage for professionals with specialized liability risks, including medical malpractice.

“UHL gave me a place to call home on campus, and I met my best friend through this program.” 💛🐾
