We are pleased to announce the new Animals Forward Executive Certificate, the first executive education initiative designed to train the next generation of animal advocates, policymakers, and movement leaders. As the only university-based program of its kind in the region, Animals Forward bridges academic expertise and real-world advocacy, helping build a stronger pipeline for systemic change. Applications are now open for the initial classes beginning this Fall.

The Sturm College of Law has once again earned an A in Environmental Law from National Jurist magazine. Our robust coursework for students earning a certificate in environmental law along with the remarkable success of the Environmental Law Clinic, the nationally recognized Water Law Journal and abundant externship opportunities make Denver Law a leader in this crucial legal field.

The programs highlighted here show how environmental law education is evolving, giving students opportunities to work on litigation, draft policy proposals, support conservation efforts and contribute to solutions for environmental challenges.

Environmental Law Clinic Secures Settlement Preventing South St. Vrain Creek Dam

After more than three years of work by successive teams of students, the Sturm College of Law's Environmental Law Clinic (ELC) has helped secure a settlement between its client Save the World’s Rivers (STWR) and the St. Vrain and Left Hand Water Conservancy District (District) to prevent the construction of an on-channel dam along the South St. Vrain Creek.

Sturm College of Law Associate Professor Wyatt Sassman, who directs the ELC, commented that “One important part of this recent settlement is how collaborative it was. Through their representation in the water court process, the clinic's students were able to create a space for our client and the water user to identify shared interests and build trust.”

The Sturm College of Law was named Partner of the Year by the Denver Public Schools (DPS) Xplore Industry Exploration Program. Alexi Freeman, associate dean for community support and engagement and director of externships and social justice initiatives, accepted the award on behalf of the law school. Reflecting on DPS student participation with the law school, Freeman recalled one student saying "I had never envisioned myself being able to get a graduate degree, but after hearing you and then hearing the students that you brought, I actually feel like maybe I could."
