It was an inspiring evening at the Alumni Night Out - Legacy of Project GO: Celebrating B/AACC & El Centro.

We heard from Manuel Ramos and Penfield Tate who shared their stories of being students of color on a predominantly white campus and the advocacy work they did to establish the foundation for the resource offices that would support future generations of students.

A Brief History of Project
In 1964 PROJECT GO was developed in an effort to incorporate the needs of all students in an academic setting, specifically targeting students from ethnically minoritized backgrounds and/or low income households. Its purpose was to identify and encourage economically disadvantaged students to continue their education beyond high school and to provide them with financial aid and academic support. In 1979 PROJECT GO became the Group Advocacy Program which comprised five offices: El Centro/Chicano Student Services, Black Student Services, Native American Student Services, Disabled Student’s Programs, and Women’s Programs.

During the first part of the program, no connections are allowed between the topics. During the Q&A, anything can happen."

Join us for a very special Alumni Night Out co-hosted by CSU Spur and the Office of Inclusive Excellence, where we will be celebrating the lasting impact and legacy of Project GO. Come hear about the origins of the Black/African American Cultural Center and El Centro as we launch their 50th Anniversaries. We'll be in community with other alumni and friends as we reminisce about what Project GO was and how it has had a lasting impact on ALL of the Cultural Resource Centers and other programs that we have today.
