Image 📣 LAST CHANCE — proposal deadline extended!

We heard you. Life is busy. So we’re giving you a few more days. 🌱

Our Call for Proposals for the 2026 Social Change & Policy Conference on Environmental Justice is now open through Sunday, August 30 at 11:59 PM MT and we want to hear from YOU.

A few things worth knowing:

🌍 This is a hybrid conference. If you’re based outside of Colorado, you can still present virtually. Distance is not a barrier.

🔬 This is interdisciplinary. You don’t need to be a social worker to present. We want organizers, researchers, healers, artists, legal advocates, water scientists, climate policy experts, community members — anyone doing work that matters.

🎤 Our keynote is Beatriz Soto, Senior Director of Community Engagement at Conservation Colorado, a Latina environmental justice leader who has spent her career elevating Latino-led solutions to protect Colorado’s land, water, and air, and whose own immigrant story is woven into every part of her advocacy.

🌿 And we’re closing the day with Harmony Cummings of The Green House Connection Center — the Denver-based activist and community organizer who has been leading the fight against AI data center expansion in one of the most overburdened ZIP codes in the country. You may have seen her this summer standing alongside Jane Fonda in Elyria Swansea. She’ll close our conference by bringing it all home: here’s what’s happening in our city, and here’s how you can show up for it.

🌎The Social Work Department participated in an international Spring School hosted by Fachhochschule Dortmund in Dortmund, Germany this spring! 🤩

🇩🇪This experience highlighted the importance of global collaboration in social work education. Professor Madeha Sunzeri, MSW attended the program alongside MSW candidates Erin Kelly and Diana Mirza. 🏰

💡A central theme of the Spring School was the value of global perspectives in understanding complex social issues.
💡Through collaborative workshops and discussions, participants explored how social work practice varies across national contexts while identifying common challenges such as inequality, migration, and community well-being.

💛Overall, the trip provided a meaningful opportunity for students and faculty to expand their professional perspectives, build international relationships, and bring new insights back to the classroom!

🎓 Hey MSU Denver BSSW & MSW grads — we’re looking for YOU! 👋

We’re building our panels for the 2026 Fall Assembly, and we want our alumni voices front and center. 💙

If you’ve ever wished someone had given you a real, honest look at life after graduation or had someone to ask about classes, this is your chance to be that person for our current social work students. Our Alumni Panels are one of the most meaningful parts of Fall Assembly, giving students the opportunity to hear directly from graduates like you about your career journey, the challenges, the wins, and everything in between.

✨ Why volunteer?

*Give back to the next generation of social workers
*Help build a stronger, more connected SW community
*Share your story in a way that truly matters
*Oh, and did we mention? Every panelist gets a shirt + a little thank-you gift for their time 🎁👕

We’re looking for 1-2 more people for each of these sessions:

*MSW In-Person: Monday, August 10 | Panelists arrive by 11:00 AM
*MSW Virtual: Tuesday, August 11 | Panelists log in by 6:15 PM
*BSSW In-Person: Wednesday, August 12 | Panelists arrive by 11:00 AM
*BSSW Virtual: Thursday, August 13 | Panelists log in by 6:15 PM

Whether you graduated last year or years ago, your experience and perspective have value, and our students need to hear it!
