The Gender Institute for Teaching and Advocacy

The Gender Institute for Teaching and Advocacy GITA stands for the justice and equitable treatment of our Black, Brown, Indigenous, & Immigrant students.

We recognize that individuals with these identities are facing increased institutionalized hostility and marginalization in these times. The Gender Institute for Teaching and Advocacy combines an academic program with services that are typically offered through a women's center. Institute faculty, staff, and students are committed to education as the key to independence and achievement. GWS studies provides a broad-based interdisciplinary liberal arts education with an emphasis on critical thinking which can be applied to a multitude of careers. Gender & Women's studies emphasizes recruitment and retention of a diverse, nontraditional student body through direct support services and outreach activities.
