🇺🇸 Press Freedom in the U.S.: A Reality Check

According to the latest report from Reporters Without Borders, the U.S. now ranks 64th in the world for press freedom—classified as a “problematic” environment.

📉 That’s a continued decline from previous years.
Key issues driving this trend:
• Political pressure on journalists
• Economic collapse of local news
• Rising safety concerns and public distrust

The First Amendment remains strong—but the practice of journalism is facing real challenges.

🧠 Bottom line: A free press isn’t guaranteed—it has to be protected.

We are proud to recognize Kip Wotkyns, recipient of the President’s Distinguished Service Award at MSU Denver.

Professor Wotkyns has made a lasting impact on our Journalism and Media Production community through his dedication to students, commitment to storytelling, and passion for mentoring the next generation of media professionals.

His leadership, experience, and unwavering support have helped shape countless careers—both in the classroom and beyond.

👏 Please join us in congratulating Professor Wotkyns on this well-deserved honor.
