Our DU PRIDE Alumni Affinity Leadership team is excited to share the first LGBTQ+ 1DAY4DU initiative hosted in partnership with the Office of Gender and Sexuality. Every May, the DU Community rallies together to raise funds on 1DAY4DU to help make a difference for our students, faculty and staff who work hard. This year 1DAY is scheduled to take place on May 19th, 2021.

We encourage you to consider the opportunity below to continue our successful efforts in supporting our LGBTQ+ students! Since donations can only be made the day of, please fill out this Google Form if you would like an email reminder on May 19: https://forms.gle/TtVFE9qazChLe3MQA

LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming students at DU often have difficulties with access to places to shop without facing discrimination, and do not have the financial resources for identity-affirming items like clothes, haircuts, and binders. Compounded with the health and racial pandemic, LGBTQ+ students are some of our most under supported as their needs are not met by traditional or family support systems or financial aid.

Your impact will alleviate the heavy financial and emotional burden of our LGBTQ+ students by providing access to identity-affirming resources. Your donation will directly support an LGBTQ+ student, and will fund both the operational costs and items offered through the “DU LGBTQ+ Closet” and other programming initiatives.

It’s not “just a dress” or “just a haircut” - it’s celebrating our students and affirming their diverse identities!

Today marks the start of week three of the Diversity Summit. This week, we will collectively consider the locations of race and racism in both national and Denver specific contexts. Our panelists will help us critically engage in thinking through the ways in which race and racism have shaped our present realities. Additionally, Chancellor Jeremy Haefner will talk with Judge Gary Jackson about Judge Jackson’s experience growing up in Denver and becoming a leader and change-maker in the legal community, having served as one of Denver’s only Black judges. https://www.du.edu/diversitysummit/2021-summit-schedule
