CU Denver LYNX Summer Arts Camps The LYNX National Arts and Media Camps are one and two-week summer programs that are produced by the CU Denver College of Arts and Media.

The LYNX National Arts and Media Camps are summer programs for high school students at the University of Colorado Denver. The camps are produced by the College of Arts & Media. The camp programs are designed to be previews of our college programs. All high school students are eligible to attend the camps (rising 9th graders to rising college freshman, ages 14-18). Say hello to your final instructor of Session 1, Shana Cruz-Thompson!

Position: Photography Instructor

Bio: Shana Cruz-Thompson is an experimental photographer and projection artist from Whittier, CA, now raising her family in Aurora, CO. For nearly three decades, photography has been her conduit to self-discovery and to the understanding of human nature’s intricacies.
Often engaging with found footage and personal 8mm archives, her work probes memory, challenges nostalgia, and delves into themes of grief, trauma, and complex familial dynamics.
Shana holds a BFA in photography from the University of Colorado, Denver. She is the founder and director of Project Photo Op which seeks to empower at-risk youth, veterans, and child loss survivors through photography workshops, exhibitions, and mentorships. Shana is the creator and curator of Vigilante Darkroom Zine, serves on the board of Denver Digerati, and currently works in Cherry Creek School District as an elementary school art teacher.

Say hello to our third instructor of Session 1, Lorne Bregitzer!

Position: Audio Production/Ableton Live Instructor

Bio: Lorne Bregitzer is an Associate Professor of Recording Arts at the University of Colorado Denver and an internationally recognized audio engineer, producer, author, and Ableton Certified Trainer. With more than 25 years of professional experience, he has worked on projects involving artists such as Nine Inch Nails, D’Angelo, Styx, Blues Traveler, NSYNC, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, and The Samples. He is the author of Secrets of Recording, published internationally by Focal Press and translated into Chinese, and has created numerous educational publications and multimedia productions on music production, mixing, mastering, and Ableton Live. Lorne holds certifications as both an Ableton Certified Trainer and Avid Pro Tools Certified Instructor, and has presented at major Audio Engineering Society conferences around the world. His work includes platinum-certified recordings, international releases, live performance, podcast production, and audio for film, television, and streaming media. At CU Denver, he teaches courses in audio production, mastering, electronic music, game audio, and advanced digital audio techniques, helping students turn creative ideas into professional-quality productions.

What are you most looking forward to this summer? “I love the energy and creativity that these students bring to camp each year. The work that they do and the effort they put into tapping into their own creativity is invigorating and inspirational. I can’t wait to see what they come up with this year. Just seeing students progress from Monday to Friday is amazing. No matter what level they’re at, I love seeing them push themselves to take themselves to the next level or two in the span of a week.”

Say hello to our second instructor of Session 1, Joshua Heinsz!

Position: Comic Book Character Design Instructor
Bio: Joshua Heinsz is an internationally published illustrator, writer, and designer specializing in markets for children and a focus on character design for animation. He is a graduate of the MFA in Illustration Practice program at MICA and holds his BFA in illustration from SCAD. He has a love for bright and whimsical imagery with a flair for the fantastical and an air of nostalgia. Outside of the studio, Joshua can be found teaching college courses or moonlighting as a group fitness instructor. If you are looking for a youthful spirit, vivid imagination and propensity for all things bright and joyful for your next project, look no further! Joshua is available for hire to fulfill all of your creative needs. Say hello to our first faculty member of LYNX camp, Charles Valsechi!

Position: 2D Animation/Illustration Instructor
Bio: Valsechi’s 11+ year artistic career spans industries including working as a fine artist, storyboarder, concept artist and illustrator. He has exhibited and is in private art collections throughout the US and Europe. His commercial clients include Mini Cooper, Wunderman Thompson, NIVEA & many more. He recently co-founded Hyphae Studios and is creating the art and animation for their first video game title.
