Mother’s Day is a great time to show appreciation in simple ways.
Food can be a meaningful way to celebrate—no need for anything complicated.

Here are a few ideas:
✔ Help prepare a meal together
✔ Let kids build or serve part of the meal
✔ Keep it simple with family favorites
✔ Add a fruit or veggie to make it balanced
Keep it safe, too:
✔ Wash hands before cooking
✔ Clean food prep surfaces
✔ Cook foods to a safe temperature
It’s not about perfection—it’s about spending time together.
What’s your favorite meal to share on Mother’s Day?

Freeze Update: What Happened and Why it Matters

On Monday night, many areas saw below-freezing temperatures for a few hours, and some farm fields dropped to 25 degrees F. We're hearing reports of severe damage to crops such as peaches, apples, cherries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and grapes - and even complete loss in some fields.

Why this matters for fruits and berries:

For fruits and berries, flowers are the future fruit. If a freeze damages the blossoms or developing fruit, there will be little to no fruit to harvest later, even if the plants survive.

What this means for farmers:

- Yield losses that can't be recovered this season. Yield loss also equals income loss.
- Added costs (extra scouting, labor, and potential replanting for some crops).
- Uncertainty as damage can take days or weeks to fully show up in the field.

What this means for consumers:

- Reduced availability of certain local fruits and berries later in the season.
- Potential price increases for affected items to to limited supply.
- More variability in size/appearance, depending on what can be harvest.

How you can help:

- Support local farmers. Shop at farm stands and farmers markets.
- Stay flexible (swap varieties or choose alternatives if a favorite item is scarce).
- Use what you buy (plan meals, freeze extras) to reduce food waste.
