You are invited to a friendly gathering of WSU speech and debaters in the Forensics Lounge in Manoogian room 530 on September 30th from 4:30-6pm.
If you went through the program at any time since Richard Nixon was in The White House, you have undoubtedly used the lounge as your anchor space on campus. Whether it was a place to rest between classes, to prepare for an upcoming tournament or to hone your pinochle skills, the lounge has been a touchstone for debate and forensics participants during those decades. When you think of all the talented and successful people who have passed through the practice rooms on the 5th floor of Manoogian Hall, you can reflect on how much was accomplished in the physical space that has definitely seen better days.
The debate and forensics program is regularly refreshed with new participants, new faculty, new topics and new events. However, the physical premises have not been refreshed in years and it shows! Over more than a half century of hard use, the lounge and the practice rooms have become tired and worn out.
Some alumni of the program believe it would be a good idea to raise money to refresh the lounge and practice rooms. To kick off this campaign, you are cordially invited to connect with old teammates, experience the program as it is today, and learn about the plans we have for the space’s future.
What to expect:
Bagged lunch format, you may eat while we meet or take it to-go
Mingling with current students, coaches, and alumni from different generations
Optional interactive activities including – cross generational panel, impromptu debates, Hat of Death
