Spotlight on the Black Women Writers class offered this fall! This AFS/GSW 3300 class will be taught by Dr. Valerie Sweeney Prince. "At the heart of this course is the question asked by Toni Morrison in her essay titled “Women, Race, and Memory”: “How can a woman be viewed and respected as a human being without becoming a male-like or male- dominated citizen?” We will consider the underlying urge to write, together with the ways that Black womaness informs writing. We will reflect on audience and aesthetics, as well as themes that emerge across the writings. Further, we will explore the impact and significance of gender in the development of the Black literary tradition."
