Join SSW associate professor, Dr. Bryan Victor, on October 21, from noon to 1 p.m. for 'Practical Science: New Research from Child Maltreatment.' Children under age three represent a disproportionate share of foster care entries, yet evidence-based interventions for this population remain limited. This study examined the impact of an infant-toddler court program in Wayne County, Michigan comparing outcomes for 60 cases assigned to the specialized docket with 240 matched controls receiving services as usual.

Dr. Ballentine is an assistant professor at Wayne State University School of Social Work and a research affiliate with Labor@Wayne, Detroit PEER, and the Center for Gender and Sexuality. Drawing on professional experience in child welfare, labor organizing, and social services, her community-engaged research examines how labor policy and working conditions shape the well-being of low-wage workers and their families.

GLOBAL SOCIAL WORK & PUBLIC HEALTH STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITY! 🚨

In partnership with the WSU College of Nursing, this SSW-led study abroad trip will take students to Cusco, Peru, the oldest continuously inhabited city on the continent. Students will learn about and visit local healthcare and community clinics, exploring public health and community health work in Peru. Students will also visit local public schools and work alongside community outreach workers on youth welfare initiatives. The program also includes a trip to Machu Picchu, guided tours of local neighborhoods and social institutions, as well as lectures & visits with practicing public health workers and social workers.
