Congratulations to the School of Medicine's Associate Professor of Oncology Ramesh Boggula, Ph.D., who was named to the Wayne State University Division of Academic Affairs 2026-27 Academic Leadership Academcy cohort!

The prestigious group of fellows will work on projects to improve an aspect of campus life and build leadership skills. His project is focused on creating hands-on lectures for medical students and residents to better learn how AI tools are becoming part of cancer treatment.

Dr. Boggula is also a Senior Medical Physicist in the Karmanos Cancer Institute's Division of Radiation Oncology.

THANK YOU to the many hospital systems, residency programs, program directors and residents who attended our Office of Student Affairs and Career Development's Hospital Summit 2026 on Aug. 27 in Scott Hall. The event featured representatives from Michigan-based programs present to provide information regarding their residency programs to our medical students (who know it is never too early to start planning for residency!)

Specialties represented included Anesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiology and more, from systems and program providers such as and more!

The undergraduate medical education faculty of the John D. Dingell Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Detroit selected our Wayne State University School of Medicine fourth-year student Jenna Hart as Best Medical Student for the 2025-2026 academic year!

Hart spent the majority of her third-year clerkships at the VA, rotating through General, Vascular and Thoracic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Anesthesiology, Internal medicine, Gastroenterology, Neurology and Psychiatry.

The award was presented at the VA’s annual medical education awards ceremony June 15. The recognition is a testament to Hart’s dedication, hard work and outstanding achievements, said Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine Bhavana Bhaya, M.D., VA acting deputy chief of staff and associate chief of staff.

The program trains passionate public health professionals to prevent disease, eliminate health disparities and create a better future for our world.
