Team Hageman Wins Blue Hawk World Series with 16-10 Victory
Team Hageman captured the Blue Hawk World Series championship, defeating Team VanLuchene 16-10 in Game 2 to complete a 2-0 series sweep.
The high-scoring affair featured 31 combined hits, with Team VanLuchene collecting 16 and Team Hageman recording 15. The two teams combined for nine home runs throughout the game.
Team VanLuchene got on the board first in the top of the first inning when Jacob McIntyre hit a solo home run to left field.
Team Hageman responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by an RBI groundout from Carter Maasjo.
Hageman extended its lead in the second inning behind a solo home run to left field from Brysen Herion, a solo home run to right field from Jaden Salazar, and a triple from Jace Buchanan. Cyrus Ellington added to the lead in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run home run to left field.
Team VanLuchene cut into the deficit in the top of the fourth inning, making the score 8-4. Logan Braaten hit a two-run home run to center field before Jose Diaz followed with a solo home run to right field.
Herion struck again in the bottom of the fifth inning, hitting a two-run home run to left field to extend Team Hageman's lead.
Team VanLuchene continued to battle in the top of the sixth inning, making the score 10-7. John-Michael Gonzalez Jr. hit a solo home run to left field, Braaten added his second solo home run of the game with a shot to center field, and Kade Vatnsdal delivered an RBI single.
Team Hageman responded with five runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to take control of the game. Buchanan singled home one run, Maasjo followed with a two-run double, and Herion added an RBI single. Trent Chavez then induced Ellington to hit into a fielder's choice, but another run scored to give Hageman a 15-10 lead.
Team Hageman added another run in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 16-10 victory and complete the Blue Hawk World Series sweep.
Offensively, Team VanLuchene collected 16 hits. Gonzalez led the team, going 4-for-4 at the plate, while Vatnsdal, McIntyre, and Diaz each collected multiple hits. Ostyn Brennan led the team with two walks. Overall, Team VanLuchene showed a strong eye at the plate, drawing seven walks in the game. Defensively, the team turned one double play.
Team Hageman piled up 15 hits, led by Buchanan, who went 4-for-5 at the plate. Herion drove in a team-high four runs, going 3-for-5 with two home runs. Salazar and Maasjo also collected multiple hits. Hageman put pressure on the defense throughout the game, stealing three bases. Defensively, Team Hageman was sure-handed, committing no errors. Ellington recorded a team-high 11 defensive chances.
Brandon Hegedus earned the win for Team Hageman, allowing six hits and four runs over four innings while striking out three and walking three. Kevin Olsson pitched a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out one. Mitchell Sambirsky tossed two innings, allowing two runs while striking out three. Joseph Pericozzi pitched the final inning, allowing one run and striking out one.
Mason Manning took the loss for Team VanLuchene. He pitched one and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on six hits while striking out one and walking one. Noah Aliff worked three and one-third innings in relief, allowing four hits while striking out two and walking none. Chavez pitched the final two and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and striking out four.
