Congrats to Amos Wolff '20!

Amos won the American Family Therapy Academy's Early Career Contribution to Family Therapy Award for his leadership in promoting equity and justice.

He received his MS in Marriage and Family Therapy at Mercy, then served as a transformational leader of the NY Marriage and Family Therapy Network during the pandemic, mobilized NY State's MFT community in response to restrictive 2022 legislation, and champions access for marginalized emerging therapists through his equity-oriented private practice, KingfisherMFT.

There's no shortage of young alums doing amazing things after graduating!

Karla Illescas ’24 completed a 6-week internship with Fundación Huellas and gained additional experience at Phelps Hospital's Caregiver Center and The Legal Aid Society.

In May 2026, Karla earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) from Columbia University.

What are university "trustees"?
They're dedicated, appointed volunteers who guide the university’s strategic vision to ensure financial stability. They're the ones who hire the presidents and generally make sure the value of your degree stays high.
It's a massive honor and huge responsibility to serve; Mercy is fortunate to have found two people more than up to the task.

Alumni Spotlight!

Huge congratulations to Mercy Criminal Justice alum Dr. Shawn D. Walton '04 on earning his Ph.D.!

His dissertation connects stop-and-frisk to four urgent developments:
1. The shift from physical stops to database surveillance
2. Expansive technological networks and predictive policing tools
3. AI-enabled mass surveillance across the country
4. Federal data sharing and protest monitoring

Shawn also received the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award from Joe Biden in 2023!

From his foundational days at Mercy to earning official citations from the NYS Senate and Assembly for his civic leadership, Dr. Walton embodies the mission of our program.

We are incredibly proud of Shawn's impact on public policy and community advocacy!

Data analytics classes haven't always been the moooost exciting. But Dr. Jeong Lim and colleagues in the Criminal Justice program are changing how students master data analytics.

Backed by a recent AI Teaching Excellence Fellowship, they're integrating AI-driven, reasoning-focused instruction and turning complex statistics into an engaging, tech-forward superpower!
