Surry Community College is located in Dobson, North Carolina in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and services Surry and Yadkin Counties. Founded in 1964, the college is a two-year, comprehensive college with an open-door admissions policy. We offer thirty-six areas of study, many of which have options for an associate degree, diploma or certificate, as well as online degrees. I

n addition, the college serves over 18,000 students in over 1,500 classes through our Corporate and Continuing Education division. This area of the college offers a variety of learning opportunities through β€œnot-for-credit” classes for those looking to take a one-time class for personal enrichment or to expand their knowledge base in a particular area. In addition to its main campus, the college operates the Workforce Development Center in Mount Airy, the Yadkin Center in Yadkinville, the Pilot Center in Pilot Mountain, and The Elkin Center in Elkin. Offering many of our basic skills, continuing education classes and core curriculum classes, these satellite centers are conveniently located to better serve our communities and students. Our exceptional faculty and staff provide the knowledge and expertise required for challenging careers or successful transfers to four-year colleges or universities, as well as help prepare students for jobs in vocational, occupational and industry related areas. Three Surry students have recently graduated as Scholars of Global Distinction, completing a program established through a partnership with UNC-Chapel Hill's World View Initiative. πŸ‘

Denice Jazmin Pinzon-Silvas delivered her capstone presentation titled, β€œNorthern Mexico Beyond Headlines: Culture, Economy, Power, and Resilience.” Guadalupe Rubio Villedas shared her presentation titled, β€œCosta Rica: Beyond the Wildlife.” Cheri Landreth will present her capstone in the fall.

The Scholars of Global Distinction program is open to all SCC students. Scholars must complete at least 15 credit hours of globally intensive courses, attend at least eight cultural activities, complete an immersion project, and deliver a capstone presentation. By joining the program, students get the chance to grow the skills they need to navigate an ever-more globalized world.

Surry Community College's annual Surry Old-Time Music Camp is back! 🎻

Join us for a week of music and fun led by the area's finest old-time and bluegrass musicians including Caroline Beverley, professional musician. 🎢

Beverley grew up in NYC and studied classical piano, composition and theory. She taught herself guitar, bass, mandolin, lead vocals and harmonies by playing music with her family and friends. Since moving to Elkin, NC in 2012, she has taught string band music. She plays full time with the New Ballard’s Branch Bogtrotters. Beverley writes music as well as plays guitar and sings with Sparta, NC based old time band Gap Civil and Athens, Georgia based band Klezmer Local 42.

The Surry Old-Time Music Camp is offering beginner to intermediate instruction in guitar, banjo, and fiddle will be provided, plus singing, dance, jams, and more! πŸ•ΊπŸͺ•πŸŽ€
