Sister Edith Sampson was a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, and a true trailblazer of firsts. She was the first woman to earn a law degree from Loyola University, the first black female judge in Chicago’s Municipal Court, the first Black U.S. delegate to the United Nations, and later the first Black U.S. Representative to NATO.

Her legacy of service, global leadership, and advocacy for Black communities as an American lawyer, diplomat, and civil rights advocate continues to inspire generations.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated pauses to honor the life and legacy of the Honorable Reverend Jesse Jackson: a true frontline soldier in the fight for civil rights and a relentless advocate for justice, dignity, and human rights. His courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment paved pathways for generations, reminding us that progress is born from persistence, faith, and action.

A fearless voice for those too often unheard, the Honorable Reverend Jesse Jackson stood in the gap with compassion and conviction. From advocating for voting rights and corporate accountability to negotiating global hostage releases, his life reflected a deep belief in fairness, hope, and collective humanity. Even in the face of criticism, he continued to show up, proving that leadership is rooted in service and purpose.

As we reflect on his remarkable legacy, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and all who were impacted by his work and his witness. May they find comfort in knowing his contributions transformed lives around the world.

To the broader community, may we carry forward his spirit by continuing the work of justice, unity, and compassion. Though he has passed, the seeds he planted will continue to grow through every voice raised for equity and every act of courage inspired by his example.

Rest in power, Honorable Reverend Jesse Jackson. Your legacy lives on. 🤍
