Collaborative and Intercultural Learning in Spanish Class!

Students in Mrs. Chong’s class represented their roots by decorating a world map and then created colorful bracelets to practice color names in Spanish!

Learning a new language is about so much more than vocabulary, it’s also about celebrating different cultures, backgrounds, and who we are! 🌎

🍎 Celebrating our 2026-2027 Teachers of the Year ✨

Douglas County College & Career Institute (CCI) Teacher of the Year Reginald Williams’ teaching philosophy is anchored in the belief that each student is unique and learns in their own way.

“I recognize and respect the diversity within my classroom and make it fundamental to my approach,” he said. “I firmly believe that a successful educational experience is one that embraces and celebrates the multitude of perspectives, backgrounds and learning styles present among my students.”

Central to that approach is his belief that every student has the capacity to achieve greatness.

Williams has taught social studies for more than 20 years. The Dothan, Alabama, native earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Alabama State University and has served as a lead teacher and department chair during his career. He also holds a master’s degree in history education from Troy University and is pursuing his specialist degree from Kennesaw State University.

He has started Student Government Associations at the CCI and Stewart Middle School, where he previously taught.

Outside the classroom, he enjoys reading, movies, concerts and finding new restaurants.

Mrs. Chong had the incredible opportunity to return to her beloved country of Peru this summer with her family as part of Mission Peru 26, a medical and educational mission. She has expressed so much gratitude for the chance to serve three rural schools in Huánuco and share school supplies with students and teachers.

A special thank you to our CCI students for supporting the DCSS Peru Project and helping make this mission possible. We’re so proud of Mrs. Chong for representing CCI with such a compassionate and servant-hearted spirit. ❤️🇵🇪
